54:13 The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) is currently in force in the following states and districts in India:


Jammu and Kashmir

The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is under AFSPA


Nagaland

AFSPA is in force in the following districts: Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, and Phek. It is also in force in the following police stations in Longleng and Zunheboto districts: Yanglok, Ghatashi, Pughoboto, Satakha, Suruhuto, and Zunheboto


Assam

AFSPA is in force in the following districts: Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Tinsukia


Arunachal Pradesh

AFSPA is in force in the following districts: Changlang, Longing, Mahadevpur, and Tirap


Manipur

AFSPA is in force in the following districts: Bishnupur, Chandel, Churachandpur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Jiribam, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Tamenglong, Thoubal, and Ukhrul 

 



The AFSPA was enacted in 1958 in response to the increasing violence in the North-eastern States. It gives the armed forces and Central Armed Police Forces the power to:

Kill anyone acting against the law

Arrest and search premises without a warrant

Be protected from prosecution and legal suits without the Central government's sanction

- **Manipur**: Imposed in parts of Manipur, except for the Imphal Municipal area.
- **Assam**: In effect in certain districts of Assam.
- **Arunachal Pradesh**: AFSPA is applied in some districts along the Assam border and areas near the Myanmar border. **Jammu & Kashmir**:
