With the Jamaica Tallawahs gone from the Caribbean Premier League - is there an issue with the identity of some of the remaining teams?

No one questions Guyana Amazon Warriors or Trinbago Knight Riders we know who they are and their heritage but can the other teams really claim to have a clear identity?

No other channels keeps it as real as we do on the Caribbean Cricket Podcast.

I can only speak for St Kitts and Nevis but people here really identify with the Patriots. You have hundreds of person that take the ferry from Nevis on a weekday night to travel to St Kitts and get back to Nevis at 1, 2 in the morning just to watch them. Despite only having 1 Kittian in the line up

As you said TKR are on the brink of a crisis as they have held on to the same old group of players and have no emerging players coming through staking a claim to the spots opening up

8:15 Guyana and Trinidad are two of the most populous nations in the Caribbean as well

19:33 In Barbados we had people who was real hype for the royals to play even when pollard was trini picking. I think we just cheer for the team because it had Barbados in the name

Yes you are so right there are bigger selling point in bringing back the way Allen Stanford had the tournament

Mash, i totally agree with you .
I'm Guyanese and i like to know when I'm rooting for my team it consist of most, if not all the players are Guyanese.
I totally concur with your take on this .

Some good perspectives, but this tournament needs Jamaica back in the fray. Their is literally both the Leeward and Windward Islands where St Kits and Antigua can pull local players from. Sometimes all these guys need is a little chance to showcase their talent!

10:41 Barbadian t20 cricket is poor. Their was a time where we had bajans in the team and the team was horrible cause bajans can’t play t20 cricket

That has always been the case with the Leeward franchise in CPL since skp was moved from Antigua. It was a point where there were only 3 LI players in CPL as a whole

That's a very very good point you make Mach, because that's something that i always think about why does some island have so many of their top class cricketers in their team while others have maybe one or two.

I’m 50/50 on this take

This was also the case with regional cricket for the windward and leeward islands .. there’s a reason They don’t have windies representation..

Most the players came from Antigua and small portions of Grenada

They may not have the talent as yet

Stanford definitely had a hype and excitement

I use CPL to gauge our current players to see who can deal with International pressure and to see who stands out. If you can’t dominate cpl then you aren’t ready for international cricket

These arent country teams though, they are franchises based in countries. It's not a Guyana team or a Barbados team. Yes it helps to have local players but when fans are cheering they aren't cheering for a national team, it's a Warriors Franchise for example.

Also to retain the core is easier said than done

Performance plays a part, player value plays a part, availability etc

I don’t think it’s a crisis, I think in franchise cricket it’s more of a challenge for everything to remain the same

Important to note, in comparison to the sa league, a lot of the players that are in the sa squad like Jansen, stubs and even markram being t20 captain has a lot to do with the franchises growing up talent towards the franchise and more importantly the national team
And more importantly a lot of the players in the team are playing for their home franchise

i usually excited about the CPL but this year, no Jamaican team to stress me out, I don't really have a reason to care who wins. They need to go back to the original setups when they had 6 locals in the eleven and then added on stars from the world or other countries. Youth man got discovered that way. Or at least maintain a core of players and have limits on transfers

13:04 yeah for a while until after 2015 where he then started to just bring in trinis and the team started losing. We liked pollard until pollard start trini picking

IPL has had veteran cricketers such as Brad Hogg at 45 and others close to that. Also has Dhoni retired as yet?
