I am flabbergasted how hard it is to find out where the crumple zones are in vehicles. I have been searching and searching and cannot find any specific information about them. Are they located in the frames or the bodies or both? Over the decades I have been in a couple pretty good wrecks with my Ram 3500 and a friends F-450. One was bad enough that it bent an F-150 frame in half that was rear ended. Even with that we walked away and we weren't wearing seat belts and the F-450 had to have the hood and fenders fixed and the brush guard replaced, but the airbags didn't go off. I am wondering if the frame had crumples zones that they just fixed without mentioning or if what. They didn't say the frame had any damage to it and he still has it to this day.

Even VW did these tests with the Golf, many years ago, including the (documented, there's still video evidence today) SLAM door test.

Still the power windows fell inside the door, the gearbox (02M, coupled with 1.6 AKL engines and similar) exploded (very soon) and the shock absorbers were done before 100K Km and the springs fell off the seat.

By the way, wasn't Ford historically making these tests to shear weight? This axle, just too robust, this differential, just too heavy and overbuilt for 200K miles.
