Im not taking sides here but for the past 8 years we have had the most ineffective congress in the history of the United States. The border should have been closed until a bipartisan resolution on immigration would be made. I dont think one American at this point wants anymore immigrants coming in for us to pay for with our tax dollars in which most that pay taxes get no safety nets at all. This is not because I hate immigrants. My parents were immigrants from the 1960s when they legally entered from italy. They had to apply three times because the first 2 times the US had met the quota of Italian immigrants so my family was rejected entry. So they filed a third time and got in. They had sponsors when they got here meaning they had friends that had immigrated, established themselves with work and then found work for my family. Also prior to coming here they saved everything they had to pay for their housing until they started work and everyone of legal age worked immediately including my father who was still in highschool to help his family. My point is I understand people are coming to America seeking asylum from poor countries but where is the quota they used to have for people coming from each country? And if we were to allow so many, why would we do this while we have so much debt? I would say if we didnt have so much debt and had a surplus like we did in the 90s under Clinton we could be more generous but we dont since the Bush administration spent it on wars that didnt need to happen just like we are now with the democrats. We are at a point where the government is looking to get rid of social security and medicare by 2030 for its own citizens due to THEIR (both sides) overspending through the years. We just cant afford to take care of all these people who have never paid into the tax system. Im 44 and I have to say since the 80s growing up, America looks like sh!t now. Mom and pop businesses, small businesses are very few, commercial big businesses have bought up, acquired and merged to create monopolies where they fix pricing to gouge the tax payer and due to this we have the highest crime we’ve ever seen because people are homeless, poor and desperate. Where we are now compared to where we were in the 80s and 90s is like night and day and I blame Citizens United and allowing big money into politics. We cant overturn Citizens United without demanding term limits on all those in congress and the senate who have made a killing from lobbyists and wealthy donors via superpacs and act on behalf of the interests of these donors before the needs of the American tax payer. Then we should fight for campaign reform and put caps on how much one voter can donate in one election year to a candidate in any government seat. So frustrating.

In my opinion, the Dems should make a deal with Mike Johnson to put the bipartisan Border Bill to the House floor for the vote. Which will pass. Before they support Johnson for Speaker.

Aren't Republicans and Democrats supposed to work together. Isn't that they way things used to be? This is like a police officer arresting a fireman for illegal parking.
