It's an understatement to call it a Definitive Edition. This Mafia remake reinvents a 2002 game with new controls, and brings its visuals up to date with photo-realistic materials and lighting - plus new facial capture tech. Tom had time with a PC preview build - pushing a GTX 1080 Ti to stunning 4K visuals and maxed settings.

Hi everyone - this is indeed a 4K video, but over the last weeks, YouTube's encoders have been struggling. Check back later and hopefully the full 4K encodes will be complete. Apologies for any inconvenience!

What i loved about mafia, especially the first one, is that they took time to build up the story, you're really just a taxi driving nobody in the beginning, you dont get magically transformed into an action hero.. there's a real sense of progression.. or atleast thats how i remember it :p

Had to chuckle with the “LA Noir style open world” explanation of what Mafia is. Yet it would probably be more correct to say LA Noir is a mafia style open world 😂

One of the most rare videos of DF without mentioning anything about Crysis TECH.

Love the camera work and motion blur on the racing mission. Really sells the speed, better than a lot of modern racing games.

In Mafia free ride alone i had a ton of fun, the game was a masterpiece in term of the story telling, atmosphere, characters.

i actually loved the handling of the vehicles, i remember mapping the controls with a steering wheel with the stick shift, the handling felt realistic for me at the time. I was surprised to see that there was also a key for the clutch, it's was really useful for handling some insanely powerful unique cars like the crazy horse.

Looking forward to see how many stuff they brought back with this remake.

I really hope they didnt make the cars fast, i remember it so fondly because the cars were so realisticly awful, usually pretty slow, heavy pig iron death traps with skinny tyres and rubbish brakes, the actual sports cars were actual death traps if you crashed at speed, real handfuls it felt authentic.
The slowness allowed you to shoot out tyres, watch the cops lose control and wreck and enjoy the whole driving shooting more than any similar games.

Tommys face is not black with all the smoke and exhaust from the race car at the end of the race, they should fix that.

The lighting is amazing. It reminds me of the Forza Horizon games.

Wait, is this the original Mafia remade in Mafia III's engine? That is a must purchase for me. I loved the original Mafia, but being able to play it in an updated engine makes my dreams come true.

Super excited for this. I’ve only played the 2nd and 3rd game.

that 2002 footage looks good as hell in 60fps. its something about simple textures on 60+ that will always look good to me
