Viewer, on this day, five years ago, the Indian Air Force dropped bombs in Pakistan's Balakot, an airstrike that you don't need to be reminded about because you remember it.

On this day, five years ago, as some of this animation depicts, a group of Mirage 2000 fighters quietly crossed the line of control in the darkness, deployed their weapons towards a lonely hilltop in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and then turned back.

The action of the bombing mission lasted less than two hours, but why are we still talking about Balakot five years later? Why is an anniversary of a military operation still a talking point?

on February 27, 2019, the indian Air foce shot down its own helicopter in Budgam a day after it conducted the strike at Balakot. All six occupants of the helicopter were killed. This disaster came even as the indian Air foce was preparing itself for a counter-offensive from Pakistan. Rest in peace to our unknown 6 indian Air foce personnels and a civilian..

40 jawans killed in one bomb attack, this didn't happen anywhere in the world. Lately we experienced the Russian Ukraine war, Israel Hamas but we never heard of such a number of casualties in one bomb or missile attack. Surprisingly in Pulwama there has been no trial, no one held responsible or punished?? Even the person who was governing those days stated the same.

India's Balakot strike has great political & international significance:
In 1971, India entered East Pakistan to rescue Bengali population from extermination at the hands of Pakistani Army. Till then entering sovereign country was considered no go area as “Sovereignty was considered to be the exclusive privilege of a country". Only application of external diplomatic & economic pressure was considered as accepted norm to temper rogue country’s behavior.
The 1971 events led to world wide discussion whether sovereignty can be absolute. It finally led to enunciation of R2P (Responsibility to Protect) Principle adopted by United Nations in 2005 to prevent genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity to challenge sovereignty.

However, Terrorism was excluded from R2P. This new crime against humanity came to attention after 9/11 & only Financial Action Task Force (FATF) was jacked up to control this. Pakistan bled US & ISAF in blood & treasure through terrorist Sanctuaries of Quetta & Peshawar Shura based in illegally occupied territories but US buckled & did not dare to hit them.
With Balakot strike, the world supported India’s right to hit terrorist sanctuaries inside Pakistan. Though India called its action “non-military, pre-emptive action” the world powers even supported non-preventive “punitive action” against terrorists inside sovereign territory.

Balakot strike also ended nuclear blackmail & nuclear bluff of Pakistan that it can provide safe havens to terrorists under its nuclear umbrella.
Balakot strike has another great significance as JeM terrorist camp at Balakot was located in the disputed territory of Frontier Province which was illegally incorporated into Pakistan by sham referendum in July 1947 & the illegally acquired territory was being used for terrorist activities against India, Afghanistan, the US & ISAF. Pashtuns & Baloch are now fighting to liberate their occupied lands from Punjabi Yoke.
