Microsoft Surface Pro 6 Review: Still the best 2-in-1 tablet

Everyone keeps trying, but Microsoft is still the best 2-in-1 tablet that can also be your laptop. The improvements for Surface Pro 6 might be a little underwhelming if you own one from last year, but it brings more power and is still the king of tablet hybrids.

LET'S BE FRIENDS!

FULL DISCLOSURE: Microsoft sent me a Surface Pro 6 i5 w/ 8GB RAM and a 128GB hard drive for the purpose of this review that I returned to them.

Wow. Less than 10% of the subscribers of CNET but more than twice the views per video on average....SUB-BOTS!!!

The next time I upgrade my laptop (currently 2015 XPS 13) is not when the laptop has all USB C ports, but when all accessories adopted USB C and is the only mainstream connector on the market.

Just unboxed mine this week. Amazing device, use it as a laptop mostly

it's a laptop ... and I can't believe it's cheaper than the cheapest iPad pro.

It‘s not a tablet in my opinion. It‘s more of a laptop with a detachable keyboard

I'm happy to see Microsoft improving their game on the hardware side. If they keep challenging Apple on the laptop/tablet segment, I may consider getting one of their product.

The Surface Pro 6 (or future 7) needs built in cellular connection. Thanks for the review!

Again reminded why I don't like CNET anymore. Anyway lol... As the owner of a company that repairs computers I have some problems that a review can't address. 1. The glass is extremely thin on these. Like about half as thin as an iPad. So they crack easily. 2. You cannot service these internally. Everything is buried under a thin sensitive screen. Now for an iPad that's not a problem because well there's nothing to upgrade inside. But we get a steady stream of Surface's that just die out of nowhere. Battery issues. Or let's say the internal replaceable SSD drive dies? You can't swap it with it buried under such a fragile screen. All Microsoft had to do was add a removable panel to the backside so you could reach it. But instead you're left with something that has the benefit of a laptop but the pain in the butt serviceability of an iPad. Customers always ask us about them and for these reasons I tell them just get a foldable laptop if you MUST have touch. That way if something dies internally it can actually be serviced or we can recover your data without doing open heart surgery.

As a student, I don't use ports anymore for anything but charging. Everything is on cloud.

I absolutely love mine. I agree with the need for updated ports. I disagree with the need for thinner bezels. With the current bezel, it’s easier to hold it without touching the screen with your thumbs. I appreciate the video.

I have this product. I don’t feel so dated about my ports; though I have usb-c devices. Matter of opinion I think. This is sufficiently good!

I got the Surface Pro 2017 when it comes out. Its perfect for my use. I study next to my full-time Job. My private Computer are all Macs. My Computer for personal use is currently a MacBook Air (2018). I got an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad etc. long story short i live complete in the Apple Eco System and i hate Windows... BUT Windows is the more used operating System. In my University they don't got USB-C Dongels or projectors with USB C Ports because they are more expensive. NO. They use Projectors with VGA and Mini DisplayPort. Most of the other students have still USB 3.0 Sticks. No USB C. If the Surface would only have USB-C Connecters it would be great for the future but it would be terrible for Students now. (Dongle live incoming) Because i think USB-C Ports must be like something was Micro USB was. Until all public institutions got PC`s with USB C Ports (and this need a time) its the best PC for students with these kind of connectors. I think this point knew Microsoft.

Its one of the only tablets out there for me, due to it having USB A port. I still use flash drives for business. If Microsoft was to change their port, that would mean I would have to look elsewhere.
