Pskov is one of the oldest cities in Russia dating to around 903.
Under the Soviet government, large parts of the city were rebuilt, many ancient buildings, particularly churches, were demolished to give space for new constructions. During World War II, the medieval citadel provided little protection against modern artillery of Wehrmacht, and Pskov suffered substantial damage during the German occupation from July 9, 1941 until July 23, 1944. A huge portion of the population died during the war, and Pskov has since struggled to regain its traditional position as a major industrial and cultural centre of Western Russia......

O!...Our Dear Nigel! This is One of Amazing moment today's evening for us to observe my favorite place ...as a PSKOV.
City of Roanoke, VA where we are living is a sister city with Pskov for many years, since earliest 70-th))) Some of our concerts have been dedicated from 90-th and by now to the visitors from different education programs who participated( exchanged students from Pskov) in our small town at our local Roanoke college.
Dan and I were a members of Roanoke -Pskov sister's city society for many years)) The World is small)a specialy, when you have a little touch some of those places with a good memories about ...
Those photos from 60-th are so nostalgic and adorable... and faces of lovely kinds on streets of Pskov are funy and playful)))
