Even though he was killed by voldemort, it was a very dumb coincidental death where voldemort wasn’t even aiming at him. And just like that, one of the very few wizards who can duel voldemort dies.

The issue with Moody is that we're all _told_ how powerful he is, but IMO not really shown it. In Book 4 he's taken out by Barty Crouch Jr and Wormtail, in Book 5 he's overwhelmed by Death Eaters and in the last book he gets killed. If anything, the movies are much better at showing Moody as a skilled wizard than the books ever were.

I know it was always supposed to happen off screen, but I REALLY would want a deleted scene or a recreation that showed the moment Moody met his end. He was such an incredible character and it's a shame he had to die off screen.

I think this needs to be cleared up. Moody tries to stop Mundungus from panicking, but he fails and Mundungus fast travels away. The reason why the death eaters can't use the killing curse on all the fake harry's is because harry has to be killed by Voldemort, so as soon as he looses his fake Harry moody kinda knows he is finished. Because they are all going to shoot at him at once, with no fear of accidentally stealing Voldemort's kill. It's specifically mentioned that it's Voldemort's killing curse that hits moody in the face, but it's possible that he was getting blasted from multiple directions so there probably wasn't anything he could have done, literally anyone would be killed in that scenario, regardless of how good of a wizard you were. We don't see exactly what happened to him, just the key information is recounted, so based on Moody's skill level we can assume there was probably more than one shot involved so he couldn't defend against Voldemort.

Moody got knocked out or killed in literally every fight he was a part of in the books. He's awesome but I wish he'd had a shining moment

Moody wasn't trying to stop Mundungus from disapparating as far as I'm aware, Voldemort shot a killing curse at Mundungus who disapparated immediately out of fear, causing the curse to hit and kill Moody.
Edit: upon rereading it seems I have spread a little misinformation which I feel bad for so to make up for it here's the quotes taken straight out of the text:
' Mrs. Weasley ran forward, but the hug Bill bestowed upon her was perfunctory. Looking directly at his father, he said, "Mad-Eye's dead."
Nobody spoke, nobody moved. Harry felt as though something inside him was falling, falling through the earth, leaving him forever.
"We saw it, " said Bill; Fleur nodded tear tracks glittering on her cheeks in the light of the kitchen window. "It happened just after we broke out of the circle: Mad-Eye and Dung were close to us, they were heading north too. Voldemort - he can fly - went straight for them. Dung panicked, I heard him cry out, Mad-Eye tried to stop him, but he Disapparated. Voldemort's curse hit Mad-Eye full in the face, he fell backward of his broom and - there was nothing we could do, nothing, we had half a dozen of them on our own tail - "' book 7 chapter 5 page 78. So there we go, again, sorry for the misinformation, however to those who had enough patience to make it this far, I will say, I still believe the initial curse was aimed at Mundungus because for 1 it's my head canon that Mad-Eye would of put up more of a fight, and 2 it never really explicitly states that whether his curse was fired before or after Mundungus disapparated, all that to say I feel like Voldemort would gun after the "harry" first, which was Dung in this case, simply because he was super salty that Harry has escaped him so many times. Lastly of course people can interpret the books however they would like which is why books are so awesome.

Pretty sure mundungus disapparated as soon as voldemort shot out the killing curse and that caused it to hit moody. What i want now is a spinoff book series where its just all about moody.
