DANG Dustin, great test, frankly its amazing how much value there is in the H501s kit.
being able to hit 2000m for a sub $300 kit is about as good as it gets. (dont try to fly a breeze)

Interesting how different antenna combinations perform. I have the standard tx and with the stock antennas mounted on the outside of the tx housing, have hit 2213m range on one battery. Was VERY anxious I wouldn’t make it back but did. Now mostly fly no further than 1.5km. Getting a new Fimi X8 SE soon... happy flying everyone!

One thing, the GPS button not just "altitude hold" mode. It's a flight stabilization too.This is why your drone start "jiggling" (start falling down to the sky), or what you say. When its on the fly is softer, slower. Turn off, you controll everything, no gyro help, only the max picth. When windi newer turn off ;)

I've done the antenna mods on my H501S X4 and I still only get about 320m range. Now, it wasn't in an open field and it was approaching high tension wires but I still expected more. I think stock it says 300m range. No worries as I don't go exploring far away much if at all, just that once for the range test. Still a great drone for $150 today!

Can you link the White control antenna you used to go from 1600 meters to 2k? Have you found any since then with better range? Incidentally, thanks for the video and well done!

Yo Dustin, here's *Helpful Drone Info #148 :* Modify that Stock patch panel antenna (FPV) for even better results, a fairly simple mod for those with advanced beginner to moderate "fuggn up your new shiot after de-boxing it" experience, that stock Antenna has 3 main parts inside it's case, the back reflector (1 w/ 4 copper squares only), the main driven element (board that has coax soldered to), then a parasitic element, (board w/ round copper circles) the MD-element is basically sandwiched between the other two, all 3 separated with a gap distance of 2mm between them. Your mission Dustin, if you choose to accept it, is to reduce that gap to "1mm" using old stand-offs or whatever can give ya that 1mm gap and still insulate the boards from each other. It will almost DOUBLE the FPV distance, @ least this did for mine, I tossed out my "Fancy" eBay bought one and went back to the stock one after modding it, using it on a H906A receiver btw ;)
I personally think an egghead at R & D punched in the wrong number variable into this antenna's equation. I did the math, and that 1mm gap will give a better center of the 5.8Ghz bandwidth I also just left the case off, i'm an adult, I'll be careful dad....lolz, also busted off that plastic stem mount and re-did it with a piece of rigid coax so I can bend & flex it more. Also should mention, I rplaced the antenna on the hubsan with a 3 blade cloverleaf I made, then mounted it externally on the H501S-S bottom, but I had done the transmitter FPV ant. mod weeks before that and it worked fine with the internal factory 5.8 in the hubsan as well. Probably NOT a good idea to swap the control antenna while the TX is on. That's an easy way to kill the final output module on the TX (RC). Best to select a TX antenna and leave it on for the flight, and swap it after the flight and the TX is off. The behavior in Altitude hold mode is very dangerous, and hopefully they will come out with a FW update to address that problem. Cheers.

Nice video! I just got in to the quadcopter business starting with the H501S. Aren't you worried that another aircraft might collide with the quad when you fly so far away? Maybe there isn't a lot of other air traffic in that area.
