I think our childhood was definitely better before social media and cellphones.

Absolutely!!! I love the ability to learn so much, so easily with the internet, but I'd happily go back to my 1970's set of encyclopedias to stop all the evil that technology has brought upon us. Happy New Year Jack!! It's going to be a wild and bumpy ride for sure!

I'm glad we had a normal childhood where we could be creative, stare danger in the face and get dirty. God bless you Jack and a scotch cheers to you to ring in 2024

I'm 53 and I wouldn't change my childhood for anything. I learned so much. We are the "unsupervised" generation and every day was an adventure. We built things to enjoy then reassemble into something else. We learned pain eventually fades but the memories and scars do not. My husband and I have been married 35 years now and I bet we've hired a "professional" less than 5 times. We know we can do anything we set our minds to. That is something these kids will never understand. What everyone calls preppers, we call life.

I'm 61 and have repeated told my kids over the years that this is NOT the same country it once was. I wouldn't dream of doing the things I did as a youngster. Instead I'm teaching my kids situational awareness and not to walk around with head phones in all the time. I've seen enough and learned enough in my 30yrs of service to be concerned enough to train and help all family and friends as much as I can learn the skills to survive...or least a good start. To coin a phrase, stay frosty friends, nothing good can come from wide open borders.

I grew up in 60s/70s and my childhood was definitely so much better. My activities included climbing trees, playing outside making mud pies, hide & seek, Indians & cowboys, tag, riding bikes or our moped, swimming, hunting for arrowheads, playing with snakes & frogs, etc. I have no idea how we survived some of the crazy stuff we did like playing in the deet spray from the mosquito truck, playing with mercury in our hands from a broken thermometer or swimming in nasty ditch water.

So glad that there were NO cell phones or internet when I was a kid. Happy New Year Jack and Tribe.

Funny you bring up this topic.I’m a 75 yr old Vietnam vet. I said to my wife this morning that they could take all this technology and scrap it. I’d rather be reading a newspaper listening to the radio dialing up a phone call etc. you get the point.Dam glad I grew up in a simpler time. Well away enough of my BS. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family and yes I’m still frosty and always strapped.God bless👍🇺🇸

I am now in my 60s and can still remember going out to dig worms to go fishing. Playing neighborhood football against other neighborhoods. Wiffleball championships. Hide and seek, flashlight tag. Looking forward to Saturday to watch Creature Feature and the Monkees . There are benefits to our technology but it was always good to get out and play.

Absolutely. It built character. If you wanted to talk shit about someone u had to do it to their face. The stress level was so much lower. We knew how to communicate. We didn't act autistic like they do now. I think it's a HUGE difference. I feel blessed to be born before internet in 1969. God bless you and keep you and your family. Thank you for your work.

I’m 40 so grew up without them and I think it made us more creative because when you were bored where I grew up we went outside to find something to do, but I will say it’s nice having it for research and learning things so I think as long as it’s controlled and they stay glued to it all day it’s not as bad.

Being a kid in the 70's and 80's was outstanding, we had it so good and didn't even realize it. Having internet access and the ability to deep dive into any subject that you're curious about is amazing as well, but the fakebook, video games, and all of the peripheral noise is to be avoided. Just like liquor, too much without self discipline can be dangerous.

In my head I can still hear the call, “Meet ya at the 3rd tree!” It was a huge maple where 6 kids sometimes 7 met and planned the entire day. Riding our bikes down the lane. Passing the cow pasture. Exploring the dirt roads in the nurseries. Pulling splinters out of my brother and sisters hands which earned me the title “Splinter girl!” Hiding under huge hostas. It was great. In the winter we sledded behind our house on a huge hill. Such a wonder we didn’t get frost bite. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Todays kids have been cheated but they don’t even know it. Happy NY!

Jack, Happy New Year. In answer to your question, HELL NO, I'm grateful we didn't have cell phones, social media or any of that other b.s. At 51 years old, I can definitely say I grew up in the best of times. Miss the 80s.

I was just fine not having social media when i was younger. Seeing what social media has done to people it makes me appreciate the old times even more. Makes me realize just how important those times were 😔🙏

I am 66 years old and firmly believe my childhood was happier and less complex than that of the children of today. I remember the turmoil of the Cuban missile crisis, the assassination of the Kennedys and MLK, Vietnam War, race riots, protests, hippies, and drugs. Despite all what was going on I still felt safe in the security of my family.

I am 70 and love the info that I can access on the web and the convenience of connecting with family & friends on social media. My childhood was free of the web & social media and I am glad of that. I am very concerned about being fed biased/false info and increased censorship by big tech and our gov't. There is a lot of wickedness out there and you have to be careful about that. .

Definitely better back in the day. I grew up on a farm. Rode my bicycle for miles. Ate fruit straight from the trees. Always had a garden. Life is actually better when you have to work through adversity.

I wouldn’t change a thing how I grew up on the farm, hunting, fishing, motorcycles and like minded people all around.👍🏼👍🏼
