Roland Cloud Jupiter 4 - FIRST LOOK

King Unique's back with us once again as we continue to celebrate all things Synthwave, and this time he's checking out the new edition to Roland Cloud - the brilliant Jupiter 4.

Maybe not quite as well known as the Jupiter 6 or Jupiter 8, the Jupiter 4 still packs a punch, and was one of the first poly synthesizers back in the 70's. Remember that classic arp in Duran Duran's 'Rio'? Yep you've guessed it!

In this video, we can really dive in to see how well Roland have done with their emulation, as Matt happens to have his very own real-life Jupiter 4 to compare! We also check out how ANA 2 fares in emulating this classic synth.

Go check it out!

The ACB emulations have gotten so good.

Very good, did they fix the arp hold function and other fxck ups that you pointed out in the end?

Very interesting. The plug in on some patches sound dull. Some others not so much. But those Strings were a great example

Great video and review. Hopefully Roland can fix the envelope times, its the attack in the original thats shorter not decay. The JP-4 sawtooth waveform is unique as it has steps in it, the number of steps reduces as the octaves increase. Roland seem to have done this on 2’ and 8’ but not 4’ or 16’, and 32’ would not make an audible difference. This could explain the lack of brightness in some patches that use sawtooth. Dont know why they added a Tone control, thats in the Promars only! Be interesting to hear whether the random mode is accurate, as there is no octave range on the original arp. Great work by Roland, just needs a 1.1 release to get closer..

Great comparison video! The thumbnail should show you have an ACTUAL Jupiter 4, as that was a pleasant surprise! 21:09 - What does the Ensemble feature do? Is that like Chorus/Delay? Thank you!

Really great comparison. Core sound seems to be there - although the presets sounded a bit muted and mid-rangey to my ears. The trigger section and the delay that you showcased does seem like a big miss on features though. The Plugout does sound quite nice though actually, worth grabbing for the System 8 for sure.

The emulation sounds colder, but the tones are otherwise indistinguishable really - good review, thanks!

Thanks for comparing them 🙂 I have noticed weird note muting stuff, when using sustain pedal on the VST versions of jupiter8, juno60/106, jx-3p and jupiter 4 on my PC. Have you tested that?
