Показать описание
Recording from a talk delivered by Dr Rodrigo Ledesma-Amaro on synergies between synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, for SynBio.Oxford on 7/6/2020. In this talk, he discusses how synthetic biology tools can be applied to better engineer metabolic pathways in microorganisms with the objective of producing bio-based chemicals and fuels in an environmentally friendly manner. The importance of improving strain performance regarding the upstream and downstream part of the bioprocess will be discussed. Finally, the use of synthetic microbial communities in bioproduction will be debated.
Rodrigo is leading a research group at the interface of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. His research lab is based in the Department of Bioengineering and the Center for Synthetic Biology and Innovation. His group explores the use of microorganisms for industrial processes as well as for biomedicine.
