This also brought up the “is it a tunic or a dress” debate. I loved my tunics but I was never sure if it was just a very short dress or if it was meant to be worn as a long shirt.

Back then leggings were thin practically footless tights they really weren’t pants. Then one day someone made tight yoga pants and the leggings we wear today where made and then athletic wear kind.

I went from being violently opposed to leggings as pants to wearing them religiously in the span of like 2 years

As a Genx grandma i remember this debate and was glad when they made them thicker. Now i wear them all the time with whatever shirt i feel like lol

Back when leggings were thin af, I remember hearing a girl in my middle school taking about how the best way to avoid lines is to buy thongs (from VS, where else??😂) and I was so mortified thinking "but they're so thin... that's like putting your bare ass on a school chair..."

Leggings now are so much thicker and higher quality than in the early 2000's. I wear them as pants all the time now!

This is likely due to the fact that leggings as daily wear were in their infancy and reminded a lot of people of tights, which were intended tk be worn beneath clothing. Before leggings expanded out into different categories, that is. E.g, athleidure leggings, or those intended to be worn during exercise weren’t well known or popularized yet, moreso the thinner, forever 21 leggings you could buy in similar packaging to tights.

Seeing this today after shopping and witnessing the SHEER AMOUNT of Hot Pants and lace pants and crochet pants and skirts with mini shorts or skirts inside for cover gives me whiplash

I still have this debate with myself all the time! Shirts are not long enough these days, but I still wear leggings every day😂. I was at a children's museum today with my son and noticed all the millennial moms were in leggings 🥲
