This really is getting frustrating. Those tracks are relatively new!!

It was ridiculous. I was seating down on a seat by the door on first car in the rear of the accordion section. About a minute or two the train left lechmere and got to the intersection, it started to rumble and the middle folded all of a sudden. There was black smoke coming out of the middle and then it came to a hault. The emergency door wouldn't open when someone pulled down the lever, but the operator opened all the doors for us to get out. We were told to stay on the platform until everyone was safely evacuated. Took a while before officials told us to go down the emergency exits and go down a path where the fire department had to cut down the chain to the fence leading up to that location. I kept waiting for a shuttle bust to show up, but took forever and when one did show up the driver wasn't even sure where he was going. On the way back from Union Square, anothe driver did the same thing. He pulled over to check with his boss to see how to get to North Station. It was a shit show.

“I spoke with about one of the 50 passengers on board”…….couldn't you just say you spoke with one?

Looks like a track switch was activated after part of the train had already passed over it.

MBTA is a joke. Cannot maintain well. I’m scared to take those.

The Green Line is a trolley line trying to be LR and HR subway - and it can't always cut it. It's old, it has sharp bends and tight tunnels and it runs through a nightmare network of track switches all day long. It needs to be completely rebuilt and that will take $billions and cause years of disruption. So be glad it works as well as it does.

It looks to me as though a dispatcher changed the switch while the lead car was passing through it. It shouldn't take very long for investigators to learn what happened. MBTA officials have already said that "human error" was the cause.

Before anybody points any fingers at the operator, it's worth looking at the dispatchers. There is an automated control system that is intended to prevent overspeed incidents. Whatever the specific cause, it looks as though the switch was aligned towards the straight track when the lead truck passed over the points, and changed towards the Union Square branch after the lead truck had already gone straight. The rest of the car followed the curve towards Union Square, and the result is the scene in the drone shots.

Why are you guys yelling? We can hear you just fine. Bring the microphone a little closer if you need a bit more volume.

Something about this incident seems fishy!

The state should take over the big dig debt they put on the MBTA so they can actually fund maintenance and improvements

What do you expect, when you waste a billion$ on new bridges, retaining walls, property purchases, etc. to create more space for more rails that weren't needed, spending (at least) an extra Billion$, and over a decade of delay, to get the results that are worse than could have been achieved by actually looking at the larger picture for resources that could be reallocated to create the results you wanted? I tried. You did nothing.
