I think a four party system with members of different ideologies to participate in elections but similar in political spectrum of the party. But the members should be more independent instead of being loyal to their party.

The real path to expressing your political views more accurately is to get involved in your locals, work within a faction in a party framework.

This is still problematic and at least in the legislature we should be encouraging more parties to compete and helping them win delegates, but you can still make a difference by participating in the process of choosing who is actually running for the house and senate.

Except that each party is made up of multiple factions. The parties aren't monoliths. There's a lot of variety and diversity amongst the parties though that is dwindling.
