2023 Honda HRV review by The Straight Pipes. The Honda HR-V is putting down 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque from a 2L 4 cylinder. At $37,130 CAD, would you take it over the Toyota CHR, Toyota Corolla Cross, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Subaru Crosstrek?

You always complain about the cvt noise holding up on the rpm, and now that they manage to actually simulate gears you say you liked those cvts that hold on the rpm?!?!…..

I love my 23 Hrv, very nice car for the price. For those of you who have never drove one you should. All the silly lack of power comments just shows how many people form opinions without actually having even been in one. It has no problems keeping up with other traffic anywhere, anytime. But someone on the internet said it, so it must be true ;)

Just got the red one sport, it feels like driving a sedan combined with an suv and weight of a truck with seats about to launch to space. I do recommend getting one! beautiful…..

Overall, I like the HR-V but wish Honda would up the power. I don't think 158 hp is enough. This vehicle needs the 1.5T engine with 180 hp. Some might argue that this vehicle with 180 hp would encroach upon CR-V sales. The CR-V needs about 220 hp. I'm a lifelong Honda/Acura fan but my main gripe with them is that they are often too conservative with their power outputs. Honda, if you read this: We want more power! You are building vehicles with really good chassis that drive very well. Just need more power. That's my one complaint.

One of these in all white drove past me this morning while I was getting gas, very sharp looking car. It's a shame how slow it is.

This HRV sold me on Honda and I just picked up a 2024 EX-L. I just drove in 5” of snow and it handled conditions perfectly. The interior is incredible and a great new design. I’ve owned many Toyota and Lexus but this is by far the best interior. Maybe it’s because my other car is a Jeep Wrangler but I don’t have any issue with the engine power. A hybrid model in the future would steal the show from CRV so maybe Honda is holding out on that. My EXL fully loaded with leather, sunroof, all safety was priced at $29.5k before all the tax/doc. In this new market, that’s a great value.

I bought one. It's a fantastic car with a couple of caveats - the CVT is super duper annoying and it needs like 25% more power.

If this gets 100 replies I’ll change the title to “RIP COROLLA CROSS!!”

Love your guys reviews! With the back and forth talking I get all the information I feel car buyers really want. Can't wait till honda releases the 23 CRV for a straight forward honest review. Keep up the great work guys. Always a pleasure to watch!

The HRV is ridiculously slow and inefficient in terms of mpg. Wait for the hybrid. When it's slow enough to make merging and passing on the highway difficult it's not worth it. Get the normal CRV or get a Civic which all are faster and actually usable.

This seems like a really nice new model, but honestly as an owner of a 2021 HR-V, it misses some of the key selling points that made me buy mine in the first place. The Magic Seats are something I use almost every day, the cargo capacity is freakishly large for such a small vehicle - the new one is much bigger outside while being smaller inside - it’s more agile and easier to park, and the fuel economy is actually rated higher in the old model too. Don’t get me wrong, it needed a redesign and some more refinement, but it’s a shame they sucked some of the character out of the model.

A guy here in jamaica has a 2016 HRV with a mugen kit and the accord 2.0T motor with a 7speed dct. It absolutely hauls!!

Best in class, until you realize how much this costs. Here in Canada, it's basically priced the same as the outgoing CR-V & Rav4.

Can't wait to see these clogging up the left lane with their highbeams on

That launch 😂 But that’s me in my little Honda Civic trying to merge onto the highway

I heard it’s slow at passing speed on the interstate. It reminds me of the Ford Escape. I like the redesign except for the grill. Would rather get a civic hatchback or CRV but skip the HRV.
