Focke Wulf 190D Cockpit Tour and More

I have a lot of go over here. I'll cover the cockpit layout of the Dora, the "flows" or procedures that pilots likely would have used in the real airplane for all the key phases of flight, before start, before takeoff and so on.

I also cover a lot of the systems, engine limitations and emergency procedures, as well as talk about the way the Dora's ignition system works.

All in all, I cover a lot, including the Dora's excellent gyro gunsight, which I demonstrate at the end of the video. It's possible to down a B-17 without taking damage using the Dora's cannons and that gyro sight, I'll show how.

I also touch on the DCS Dora's issue of weird engine failures which I think are no longer an issue with the latest update.

In short, my hopes are that both sim and non sim users alike will find a lot of interesting and useful information in this video.

The Official auto and Air Fan Store is Here!

Notes: Obviously you would press the IFF self destruct if you made a forced landing in enemy territory.
Some U.S. fighters used a shotgun shell type mechanism to turn the motor over for start. However the electric flywheel type was more common. There were also manual cranks for backup in some planes.
The Weapons system gets electrical power from the aircraft main electrical system. It's not independent. So you have to have EITHER the batter cb or the generator cb on for the master arm switch to arm the weapons.

Alright guys, time to donate to the computer upgrade fund. We’ll get him from potato to soggy french fries in no time.

Damn, I had no idea how much detail and attention went into the building a FW190D/TA152. year's ahead of it's time.

This entire kind of video is really great and a good way to spice up the content while still being super educational. Do as many of these kinds as you want.

I just wanna say I stumbled upon your channel randomly after recently getting into airplanes. Your voice is incredibly soothing and I could listen to you talk about anything, makes for a great night-time "podcast" if you may. But also your knowledge is awesome. Keep it up and don't stop posting - be it old timey ww footage, dcs, or cars! Thanks.

I can see that pilot opinions on the FW-190 from an ergonomic standpoint were as accurate as ever. Compared to every other warbird its astonishingly modern and friendly.

Excellent video as always Greg.

Fantastic, Greg! Another goodie. Can't wait for the takeoff, flight ops., and landing procedures videos. That Dora is one “pilot's plane”.

I just want to say:

From my experience so far, you are doing a great job.
When I have asked a question, under any old video, no matter how stupid, you have answered immediately with the utmost objectivity and calm.

The reason I felt this comment was worth writing down for you is:

With all my heart, I am grateful to God that He created such people on Earth!

Thank you, too, for staying on this path!

Greg, you explain aircraft systems like a competent A&P.

Great systems overview!

Any chance you'd be willing to do cockpit comparisons between the most and least "pilot friendly" aircraft?

Cockpit heat, panel layout, controls, required management (the more you have to baby the plane and instruments the less your fighting the plane in front of you), etc.

This is my favorite channel of all time. Anyone who had this man as their flight instructor was abundantly lucky!

I am 71 years old and ever since I was a kid I have loved and admired the Ta 152. Thanks mate for your knowledge. 👍😎🇦🇺

The detail on the simulators is amazing

I’ve seen several folks cover this information before but none came close to this level of detail …..as we’ve come to expect from Greg. I found it really interesting that it was presented in the manner a real pilot would, using the flow concept. I always wondered if they used written check lists. Learned a lot of new things about my favorite WW II fighter. Thanks Greg!

Again the fw190 Cockpit is a work of art. If I had the money to get a real warbird, it would be a 190.

Considering how often you bring it up, I think you just might like this airplane. 😆

Heya greg, i can't remember where i read it (possibly DCS dora manual) but to my understanding the way to re-enter automatic cowl flap mode is by holding the cowl flap close key binding. For obvious reasons i recommend doing this with the throttle back, since the engine will momentarily spike in temp. However, you should see a return to normal within 5ish seconds.

EDIT: BTW another great vid brother!

I really enjoy these in depth videos of nerdy info that other simulator creators don't go into. Would definitely enjoy that take off video with similar info.

This reminds me of Chieftain's switchology videos, would love to see more of these for the other planes!

Hey Greg! Good video.
Regarding the D9's manual cowl flap operation, from my experience it works more as a thermostat control.
You'll notice in flight that as you twist and turn the knob open or close, the cowl flaps will briefly snap open/closed, before returning to _almost_ their pre-adjustment position to maintain a slightly hotter or colder temperature. The cowl flaps seem to always be in a sort of "automatic" state, but the only thing that you are _always_ in manual control of is setting the temperature you want the system to automatically regulate too. Normally, and upon spawning in, it's set to 100C.
