Book Review || Dawn by Elie Wiesel

Honestly not too pleased with how this turned out, but I figured I'd post it anyway. Wouldn't want to waste the two worthwhile thoughts I had.

I’m reading this book now and I’m really enjoying it. I agree that it seems weird that it’s in a trilogy but I also see why it is other than for marketing purposes. The version I have has all three works in one physical book so I’m not sure if it has the same preface as the edition you read. Elie Wiesel explains briefly that the novel was a way for him to explore if he could have morally handled being a part of a movement like the one in the book and if he could kill another person for a cause like The Movement. He wanted to see if, after all he had been through, he would fight for the rights of Jews in that way. I agree it’s very strange how it’s connected, but I also like how he managed to weave them together. Thanks for the awesome review - it helped me decide to read the book!

I've heard mixed reviews of this book and a lot of it centers around the idea that _Night_ and _Dawn_ are not really connected in many ways other than the titles. I've not read _Dawn_ but I may.

I never knew Dawn was it's own book until you mentioned it, it feels weird that they called these a series. They could've had the non-fiction and fiction separate to avoid the confusion

Great review Alex! It is interesting that this is part of a trilogy when none of the books are really related at least story wise. Night was such a great read I am looking forward to reading this one.

Sounds fascinating. I still find myself struggling to understand how non-fiction/fiction books can be in a series, but if it works, it works.

Good review! I've yet to read Night but now I plan on reading Night and Dawn back to back.

Hey Alex, how are you doing? I finally got Night read/listened to during the Dewey 24 hour readathon.

Elie Wiesel is an author I'm embarrassed not to have read yet... Interesting writing a novel as a sequel to a nonfiction book! It reminds me of Nathan Filer who was a psychiatric nurse and then wrote the novel The Shock of the Fall about a boy with schizophrenia, and then wrote a nonfiction book about schizophrenia The Heartland (renamed in paperback This Book will Change Your Mind about Mental Health)
