Traffic builds as Sunset Fire burns through Hollywood Hills

A "very dangerous and explosive" brush fire has sparked in the Runyon Canyon area in the Hollywood Hills, prompting evacuations for some residents, firefighters said.

If I was living anywhere in the LA area, even if there were no fire close to me, I would start packing all important or irreplaceable items and even rent an uhaul and place as much as possible there and I’d drive out of there as far as possible. Those embers will fly far with that wind a fire can start anywhere at any moment. You are not safe anywhere in the LA area and around it. I understand that not everybody can do it, but I could/can, if needed, and I would. I would not wait for an evacuation order to leave. Leaving without hurry is way better than running only with your clothes on.

People’s lives and ‘saving’ people’s lives are what is most important right now. That said, I sometimes wonder how many irreplaceable items will be destroyed. Everything from rare and precious art pieces of all mediums to 1 of 1 historical ‘anything’ ‘and everything’ related to Hollywood or any other industry. Old personal family photos taken before digital photography, gone forever. Family heirlooms up in smoke. Lives are more important than material possessions, but a huge percentage of those material possessions have no possible way to be recreated
