UnHerd's Freddie Sayers meets former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

As arguably the most controversial Prime Minister in recent British history, Liz Truss has become the face of free market libertarianism and its discontents. She joins UnHerd’s Freddie Sayers to discuss her new book ‘Ten Years to Save the West’ and the lessons she learnt from her turbulent time as Conservative leader.

Freddie is a superb journalist/presenter and social commentator. He always asks what needs to be asked and takes into account what the viewers want asked. Excellent

I am actually surprised how honest she is in this interview. A lot more coherent than I thought she would be, after only seeing how the media has portrayed her.

This comment section is slightly bizarre and detached from the actual interview.

Opening response is spot on. Government doesn’t run out economic policy.

29:00 the virtue signal of "hate" should be deleted from politics, people should be allowed to "hate" and sentencing for various crimes should not have modifiers such as "hate".
Legislating "anti-hate" is pure mind control.

Good talk thanks, I agree with Liz about how rotten to the core the system is. The Conservatives AND Labour are part of the problem.

She got moderately red pilled but still sounds so naive

The most fascinating part of this conversation is that she is right on the edge of understanding the big picture. I say on the edge, because her time in the big house taught her that politicians are meaningless in the big scheme of things, yet, she still believes that the CONSERVATIVE party can a party for CHANGE! 🤣

This is a fantasticly a great interview.
If you think she's naive you are correct. If you think she's wrong then maybe you are naive.

Here's what I don't get though: Why on Earth did she schedule her budget for the day after the Bank of England announcement? When she knew their policies were at odds? If financial institutions were trying to undermine her, then she handed them an open goal.

I get upset when people say "but" after claiming they believe in free speech.

Liz Truss just won't go away. What does she have to add to the conversation?

Liz is perfectly correct, the people vote for change but the machinery or administration of the government is not changing and thus, the politicians are not being able to deliver on their promises. The only thing I disagree with Liz, is the fact that the conservative party is no longer what shehoped it was, then move with the times, Reform UK, may be a better solution, than trying to alter the Conservative party.

Liz Truss was and is totally on the right track with the Supply Side economics policies. She had every good reason to bring swift reform. If anyone has spent any reasonable time actually listening to Art Laffer and the five fundamentals of Supply Side economics would have a deep appreciation for what Liz is saying. I live in Australia but when I first heard Liz speaking about reforms when she was PM, I couldn't believe my ears and was super excited. At some point in the future, history will recognise the great opportunity lost. One must remember that Liz, her Supply Side economics, and her tenacity are in stark opposition to the current neo-Marxist Woke takeover of all Western institutions. Anyway, good on you, Liz!
But. Also, Freddy is probably right about needing better optics or political nuance or patience, so as to lead the people into understanding the way forward for economic prosperity.
Apart from all that, I for one was genuinely excited about a possible seismic shift in Western economic and social mind-set.

High tax economies don't work, she was trying to lower taxes, and they hung her for it. Now all the billionaires are leaving... she was correct

In my view, she came across during the interview, as a technocrat politician who knows how to solve the problem technically but as a PM you need to deal with the shenanigans in the government & party. Maybe that’s where she missed out and dearly paid with her 2 year tenure. In short, she didn’t play politics!!

Including State taxes the highest rate in the US can be 50% as opposed to 45% in the UK

Most people seem to not have a lot of sympathy for liz truss as seen in the comment sections of various media. I am not british, I don't know a lot about her and have not followed her during her term as pm. however, whenever I hear her speak, I find what she says is logical and well aligned with what I think too, especially in terms of the inertia by design of the Machine, or deep state as others like to call it. whoever liz truss is, this needs to be addressed as much as possible and I am grateful for her doing so.
