Henry Ford’s Old 999: Minnesota’s Vintage Rust News 6

WHAT MAY WELL BE the most famous racing car ever built, Henry Ford's Old 999, will be
on display at the Minnesota State Fair Antique and CLassic car museum, through the cooper-
nation of the Ford Motor Company and its Minnesota dealers including Monticello Ford, Inc.
In 1902 Old 999 was the biggest, most powerful American car yet built. It was nine feet,
nine inches long, with a tread five feet, two inches wide. It was rated at seventy horsepower
or more and was probably the first American car to develop one hundred horsepower. With
Barney Oldfield behind the tiller, Old 999 set a new record in 1902. The photograph shows
Oldfield seated, with the young Henry Ford. The 999 will be among the many COar Museum
exhibits at the Fair which include 2 Rolls Royce, a Packard-Darren, a Cord, a 1932 Caddy
and many more. In addition a new Ford Pinto and a real live Pinto Colt will be given away.
