The Indo-Pakistani war of 1971, also known as the third India-Pakistan war, was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan from 3 December 1971 until the Pakistani capitulation in Dhaka on 16 December 1971.

Thirteen days after the war started, India achieved a clear upper hand, and the Eastern Command of the Pakistan military signed the instrument of surrender on 16 December 1971 in Dhaka, marking the formation of East Pakistan as the new nation of Bangladesh.

On December 16, 1971, at precisely 1655 hours IST, Lt Gen AAK Niazi, Commander of the Pakistan Eastern Command, signed the Instrument of Surrender in the presence of Lt Gen JS Aurora, GOC-in-C of the Indian Eastern Command, in Dacca (now Dhaka). This brought to an end a war which officially lasted just 13 days.

Sir, 1971 was more or less a repeat of 1947, only the players were different.
In 1947 it was hindus vs muslims.
In 1971 it was muslims(Punjabi, sindhis) vs muslims(bengalis).
Both historical events were extremely painful and yet inevitable with trauma.
Time, history, nations do not stop moving and changing and there is no alternative except to move on.

Very objective analysis. We don't waste time in learning from history Dr. Saheb. We love the past and live in the past, doing what we have always been doing.

Continuation of prev my comment.
1. Agar Yahya Khan 25 march 1971 wala Assembly ka Ijlaas multawi na karta to surely yeh saneha na hota
2. Bhutto ne kaha thaa jo bhi west pakistan se assembly ke ijlaas mein shirkat karne jaye, woh one way ka ticket lekar jaye .
Ppp ke Ahmed Raza Qasuri Dacca gaye, iske ilawa ppp 137-82 = 55 arkan west pakistan se phonche
160+55= 215.
Yeh do tihayee banti hain. Bhutto ko andaza ho gaya ke Aayeen Ban jayega
Then Yahya cancelled First meeting of assembly.
Which broke out violence in Dacca.
I listen on BBC that crowd attacked on Pak Fauj chowki and set fire .
Who advised yahya for this step, the name came was Bhutto.
Yahya not being politician should not do that and waited for outcome from assembly efforts in drafting constitution.

You didn’t mentioned why General yahiya didn't call assembly? Why he left Dhaka in hiding and ordered a military operation while negotiation between Awamileague and PPP was going on?

My friend, When armies mistreat the people and earn their hatred, Those armies are incapable of defending their countries: Who committed the first wrong: It was General yahya who was not interested in the larger interest of the country but in perpetuating his own power: Mujib had won the election of united Pakistan and wanted to be PM But international powers, short sighted West Pakistan politicians Bhutto in particular made Indian design successful: We have not learned anything from history: MILITARY IN PAKISTAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OUR MISERIES BUT IS ADAMANT TO KEEP ITS STRANGLEHOLDON POWER : A powerful and impassioned plea for dialogue and reform!

Indeed, history shows that oppression often leads to resistance and ultimately, reckoning. The military's brutal tactics will only fuel the flames of dissent, and arresting women and children will not silence the voices of the people.

The analogy with the French Revolution is apt, and the reference to Form 47 highlights the illegitimacy of the current government. The call for a win-win situation, negotiated through dialogue between the military and Imran Khan, is a sensible and pragmatic approach.

The question posed is poignant: if the military could negotiate the surrender of Dhaka with Indian generals, why can't they engage in dialogue with Imran Khan to find a peaceful resolution? It's a reminder that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for finding solutions that serve the larger interests of Pakistan.

Let's hope that reason and wisdom prevail, and that the military and government heed the call for dialogue and reform, rather than continuing down a path of oppression and violence. The future of Pakistan depends on it.

Your research is partial and ambiguous... You need to revise your research process and bring all facts to light impartially.... Quoting some instances from few authors and journalists doesn't make sense. Read more text in this context... As researchers, we must not stain the facts.

The Bengalis are better off running their own affairs. At the time of Dhaka fall West Pakistan was 70% richer than East Pakistan. Today Bangladesh is 45% richer than Pakistan. The Bengalis are honest and hard working people. That is the reason even Pakistani businessman have moved their businesses to Bangladesh. I have never seen a Bengalis beg in the M.E. or North America, On the other hand I have seen Sindis beg on Mount Hirah in KSA and Punjabis beg on Toronto subway stations. Today Pakistan is living on handouts from IMF, World Bank, Rich Gulf Arabs & China!
