H Bridge DC Motor Driver Circuit/Control [40A PWM, Power Mosfets] using IR2104 Mosfet Driver and IRF3205

An H-Bridge (Full-Bridge) driver is quite popular in driving loads such as brushed DC motors and it is widely used in robotics and industry. The main advantages of using an H-Bridge driver are high efficiency, rotation direction change, and breaking the motor. In this article/video, I have introduced a complete H-Bridge DC motor driver using four IR3205 power MOSFETs and two IR2104 MOSFET drivers. Theoretically, the above-mentioned MOSFET can handle currents up to 80A, however, in practice we can expect to get currents up to 40A if the MOSFET temperature is kept as low as possible, using a big heatsink or even a fan.

Nicely done. I modified my pump controller to use a half-bridge driver as you suggested and it's been working flawlessly for months. Thanks for the help.

Very nice explanation; I found out the hard way about needing Schottkys across the FET drain to source, they are definitely needed for driving the bigger motors. I kept blowing the FETs and it took a lot of looking around to find the cause and explanation.

Hello, I am from Argentina, excuse my English! Very good project. I am working on a replacement for the famous IBT-2 BTS-7960, I do it with IR2110 and channel n mosfet, also a dead time logic so as not to destroy the mosfets. This video inspires me to do it!

great video and project. I combined with ESP32 to control the motors (I am using two H-bridge drivers) over bluetooth using my smartphone.

Can you explain how you made the button connections of the engine? How will the connections of the 4-legged buttons be ?

I build the circuit and run it. I only had a problem when I pressed the reverse engine buton. I think I made a mistake in the software part you shared.

Nice work. This would almost be perfect with my project. Would have to add current sensing ( ACS758LCB-CB-100B) to the PCB.
Curious if the circuit could switch to motor regeneration when coasting.

Thanks for your good work on this driver. I wonder why you do not measure the current in the motor. I am interested to see how it performs at 15 Amps for a sustained time.

Hi excelente video but I was wondering, did you prove your H bridge with another Voltage supply than 12V?.
I made one of this h bridges but mine doesn't work when have a superior Vs supply and I don't know why

This is a cool idea. I was going to swap out the FETS for 100V-40A ones to drive with a 80V lawnmower battery. I ordered the boards from PCBway, but as I started looking for the individual components, I can't find anyone who stocks the IR2104 driver! Any ideas on where to find?

Hello sir. I have question about IR2104 Vcc and Motor Vcc. I have 12V battery and 12V 380W DC motors for our robot. If IR2104 Vcc and Motor Vcc supply same terminal with my 12V battery, will I face any problem ? I don't want extra pinout for IC Vcc our design, because my battery and motor are 12V. In this video you supply Vccs same power terminal.

Should’nt Q1 and Q3 be p-channel mosfets?. All n-channel mosfets in your circuit

Make a video on H Bridge Inverter using TLP 250 or any other optocoupler. Can you suggest which mode is possible for the H Bridge or any Multilevel inverter, low side or high side is used in making simple H bridge inverter.
