Experiment: Using Vinegar to Remove Rust from Bolts?

I didn't know the best procedure for doing this but I wanted to share my experience with you guys!

I was curious to know if Vinegar would remove the rust from these old bolts pulled from a vacuum pump that had been neglected. Watch and see the reaction that happens when you mix rust and good ole fashion vinegar!

You should not have put the baking soda in. You soak in vinegar for 24 hours, then brush the rust off. Then you rinse in baking soda water, so that it neutralizes the vinegar and doesn't keep eating away at your metal. Then you can oil them down to help prevent rust from coming back for longer.

My seized wheel hub was loose after a 20 minute soak and 3 small taps i used non diluted cleaning vinegar and a spraybottle for easy distribution over the hub

Remember, blueing is a form of rust /oxidation! (For the firearm hobbyists, mostly!) Thanks!

After using white vinegar i have noticed that the bolts tend to rust very quickly. Do you reckon i should use more baking soda to create a protection for the metal? Thanks! Great video!
