As a Scot who can speak Japanese and a little Mandarin, I totally agree! But that Scottish comment came out of nowhere, and I cackled! 😂

I only ever had one friend, Kijin, who had the weird ability to sound EXACTLY THE FREAKIN SAME in every language! And homegirl always sounded like a chilled the heck out California surfer dude, but was from Seoul. Idk man

As a Scottish fan… my butt was hurt BUT the truth hurts 😂 also the bilingual part of me totally agrees with the variation of voices.

Not just voice but personality. In Spanish I'm a super fast talking, confident party girl. When translating in Panama for a group of tourists, the tour guide commented on how much faster I speak in Spanish, even though I didn't learn it til adulthood . Not because I'm so good or something, but because it's the Spanish personality. Language somewhat dictates personality

When I speak in my mother tongue, Bikol, I sound fast and rough, almost angry they said. But when I speak Filipino/Tagalog, I sound very polite and kind. And then with English, my voice sound small and sweet. 😂

I notice the pitch of my voice is higher when I speak tonal languages such as Vietnamese and Chinese. Also the pace is slower and more relaxed. When I speak English, my voice goes a bit lower but with faster pace. However, people always say my voice is high, clear and sweet in all 3 languages. I found it is funny and awkward at the same time when people mistake me for a girl on the phone many times.

When u end the conversation on phone when talking in japanese, the tone increases. But when we speak in English or Hindi, the tone decreases while ending the conversation

This is so true! And it's funny when I'm translating and going back and forth between Arabic and English. It's like I'm 2 persons speaking 😅
