Although people love to read and learn about The Wars of the Roses, there’s one historical figure who is rarely found in the limelight: Henry VI. This week, Danièle speaks with Lauren Johnson about the somewhat forgotten “shadow king” Henry, his life, his illness, and his quiet but important legacy.

It really speaks to his his personal-ability that even as a prisoner of his enemies, they don't dare harm him unless they upset the peasants.

From exhumations, we've been able to determine that Henry VI died as a result of physical violence while in captivity, but Richard II did not. I wish they'd move forward with cracking open the coffin of Edward II, although there probably isn't much left of him by now.

Hmm, based on this interview I think I will buy the book. It seems a bit sad that his Kingship was left aside by historians and seen as a "rubbish" kingship. What were they fighting for...a blood line aka the War of Roses? The historians seem to lose sight of his greatness against all odds...wins and losses were not his idea of success. Although, I have not yet read the book it appears that Christians believe that his losses were secular but his conquests divine (especially through their prayers asking for his intercession).

This is an interesting subject and I would have given it a "thumbs up", but I found the two speakers' frequent laughter while talking about this sad story quite irritating and inappropriate.

I really feel badly for Henry VI. He really would've been more suited to be a scholar or priest. Not a medieval king.
