We’re fresh water here as well, and we have a few lakes with dive platforms and other interesting features nearby. Notable features include sunken boats, a teeter totter, basketball hoop, a 15’ chicken, and several other things. Some, as you said, come out of nowhere and are creepy.
They’re good for navigation and skill practice, and definitely make lake diving a bit more enjoyable.
