Yeah, upgrading to 5g has been lackluster. Definitely in the lowband area. I thought 5g was supposed to control our minds, not be only slightly better than 4g.

This is the daily dose of tech knowledge that I need today.

Goddamn the US messes up these terms. I always thought Sub-6 was low band, and while I'm an AT&T user, Verizon also has their "Ultrawide-band" which is mmwave or high band, and C-Band is being offered under multiple names like 5G+ and a different variation of Ultrawide-band.

And let's not talk about AT&T 5Ge. It's just LTE in places that 5G is avaliable.

People out here complaining that they don't get 3gbps like they use daily more than 60mbps tops to begin with 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thanks for the heads-up! Now, I just need to wait until 2025 when my country finally roll out 5G.

Eh, my provider just included 5G into its plans, there's no special 5G plans here

TMobile includes all their 5G in every plan, so no need to worry about being bamboozled there. Also while C-Band is mid-band, not all mid-band is C-Band. There's the 2.5 GHz spectrum that TMobile uses and also others as well not classified as C-Band. Also it's important to note that a lot of the low and mid band spectrum are already being used for 4G, like Bands 2, 41, 66, 71 among others that can also be used for 5G.

Wait… Do someone actually have to buy a plan for 5G?? Here in Norway we just get it as the provider flip the on switch. They compete to be the first to give it to everyone. You only have to make sure your phone has 5G

"Your bandwidth may vary!"
I actually jumped on the first implementation of 4G, aka WIMAX, and was blown away by the performance. The the industry shuffled and standardized on LTE and called that 4G eliminating the WIMAX option. Bandwidth dropped dramatically.
The lesson - early adoption is not a great idea for a commoditizing market.

I'm happy with the low band, the upload is very good too plus it doesn't cost me anything more right now

The UK is easy if I understand correctly. Has to be compatable with all of them or it isn't legal. Done and dusted. Why can't everyone adopt that idea?

In Israel we don't have different plan for mobile data, you choose the size of the monthly data and you can use 4g 5g 3g for the same price (usually around 10$)

I would love to see you cover more with phones and 5G connectivity. I have an iPhone 12 with Verizon and when I hit their 5G UW areas I lose all internet capabilities but the phone still works for texts and calls. I’ve tried all kinds of settings to correct this and nothing works. I’ve looked at forums and the like and Verizon takes no responsibility for this. This also happens to Other iPhone users 12 pro max and 13 according to forums. I’ll be driving down the highway using Waze and audible or listening to stuff like this on YouTube to only have it randomly drop everything.

I have T-Mobile and I actually had to disable the 5G radio in my iPhone SE since I was getting even worse performance on 5G than I was on LTE.

i get around 250mbps in my city with LTE xD

I bought my phone knowing it only supported up to Sub6, because I lived in an area where the low band was the most common

They also have a version where 4G and 5G are mixed together, called non-standalone (NSA).
I'm on this plan because it's the only one available in my area, way out in the countryside in Ireland, in the back arse or nowhere. I've never gotten over 100mbps, but it's still a lot better than the 4G plan I was on before it where my speeds would drop to 1-2mbps every evening.. That was hell.

I'd really love to see a LTT labs study of the viability of cell providers home internet offerings. T-mo & Verizon advertise where I live all the time. I'm still convinced the more expensive but hardwired service will remain consistent.

They forgot to mention that the millimeter waves are more dangerous to be around the closer you get to them.
