Since President Bola Tinubu’s administration took office in May 2023, efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s healthcare system have been a priority. Key issues such as disease outbreaks, high mortality rates, the medical brain drain, and improving health infrastructure have been at the forefront. In this review of the health sector in 2024, News Central speaks with Professor Philip Njemanze, Chairman of Chidicon Medical Center, to assess the progress made. We discuss the exodus of medical professionals, how Nigeria aligns with global health goals like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the coordination between federal, state, and local governments in implementing healthcare reforms.
