That ending always disturbed me. I like to think that rather than a new universe, once theirs winks out of existence without time in effect anymore they basically return to the start of their own universe. Then they come back to the moment they left, describing a perfect circle in time.

the worst thing bender's ever done was prevent fry and the professor from scoring with those babes

the thing is, the original universe still ended, so while even though they were able to "return", everyone else still lived their lives, and Leela lived hers without Fry
