Star Fish Eating Clam

For our marine biology class we did an experiment to see how long it would take a star fish to eat a clam. This is a short time-lapse of the first 45 minutes of it feeding.

Misleading video. Sea stars do not swallow the entire clam, they open the shell a bit and evert the stomach inside the shell, thus digesting the clam. The shell is left whole.

A species of class asteroidea, phylum echinodermata, folding itself around a bivalvia to have a feast.
This is a unique extracellular feeding habit of these organisms, as the approach their prey and force apart the valves of the molluscan to inject their tube foot into the endoskeleton. Once the tubefeet reaches there, they insert and unfold their stomach like a blossoming flower in the body cavity of the prey and releases the digestive juices and enzymes with in the preys body, which digest the inner part of it. The nutrients filled liquid is absorbed by the stomach.
This is the feeding mechanism of some species of ecchinoderms..

How a starfish eats.
They pry open the shells of clams or oysters with their arms, pushing their stomachs out through their mouths and into the prey's shell, partially digesting the animal and then pulling their stomachs back into their mouths.
