As a lifelong Cavalier fan, I couldn't believe the number of times I was begging them to take Shaq out. He wasn't even being a "space heater" by that time. Guys were going around him with ease. He couldn't block anyone out for a rebound. He retired before he ever got to Cleveland.

Shaq and LrBron failed because Shaq wasn't in his prime anymore. He was damn near 40 and had already been on 4 different NBA teams before he signed with Cleveland . That's just George Gervin and Michael Jordan failed because Gervin was past his prime when he signed with the Bulls and Michael Jordan was just a rookie

Tim Duncan would have signed with that Tmac and grant hill magic team but somebody in the higher ups of the magic told Duncan he couldn’t bring his family on the team plane and after that, he resigned with the Spurs. Imagine Duncan and mcgrady on the same team in the prime

Shaq and LeBron wasn't a Duo, it was Cavs trying to get talent to surround a young Lebron. Based on Shaqs career, he was well past his prime.

Jimmy Butler wasn't swell on Wiggins, but Towns was the biggest issue in Minnesota. He demanded a trade and landed in 76ers where it became even worse because Embiid injuries were a headache, and Simmons wasn't interested in getting better. And if there is one thing we know about Butler, he hates people who don't want to elevate their game, won't work out and eliminate their weaknesses.

Westbrook and Durant never failed, they were multiple time Conference Finalists and made the NBA Finals against one of the best teams in 2010s. The didn't fail, they just never succeeded to make it all the way to the top. Big difference.
