Why can you move emails freely and rearrange them to have the more important ones at the top and the less important ones below for convenience? Does anyone have a clue?

Why can't I drag an email in "Updates" category folder, for example and move into "Inbox" ...? WHY? I am so frustrated. Help, anyone?

This used to work; however, now all the emails are a blue highlight (whether in inbox or inside a folder). I can click and move the email, but once I try to move it to another folder, the folder no longer appears with yellow highlight and the email chosen will not move. I've seen other comments from other people having the same problem; and apparently, google has decided not to offer suggestions on how to fix this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks

This is NOT dragging and dropping - this is clicking, and scrolling ... very UNuser friendly UI experience on Gmail platform.
