I've seen this railway on YouTube a few times before, but never actually visited in person. My love affair with all things smoke, soot and steam began when I was 4-years-old. I can still remember my first visit to the Severn Valley Railway, with my Dad. We were wandering along Bridgnorth Station on the Platform 1 side, and Daddy left me standing on my own beside, if my brain serves me correctly, no. 80079 the Standard 4 tank engine who was waiting for her signal to start off in reverse. Other children around me hid behind their parents. I didn't react at all. Why? Because I was brought up with Thomas the Tank Engine. 80079's safety valve lifted, as she let off steam and moved slowly backwards with a rake of Collett Great Western coaches. I didn't even flinch, I was mesmerized and fascinated. Thankyou, Daddy, for introducing me to the world of real steam engines.
