I was with my parents on one of these France holidays. And since I was the only one in the family to be able to speak French and ask for hotel vancancies, sometimes they had to humour me as opposed to sleep on the road. So I went into this record store, flipped through the merchandise and decided on the record with the most promising cover which was a dog with two heads. I went into on of these booths, pressed the shower-head earphone to my ear (singular), got off like a rocket and bought the album. No, I made my parents pay for it. That was my life, people. So long ago.

This was the final album i bought "From the makers of...." series. It was in the early 1980ies and i had started with "Whatever...." a few years earlier. Pocket Money was low - so "Dog of two Head" had to wait. It didn't impress me that much anymore back then because i had already drifted into the Metal Scene. But this is a early masterpiece with stunning tracks on it. Was always wondering why they named a song "Umleitung" which is a typical german word (and i am from germany). Decades later i had heard from many guys that they toured germany in the very early years of the 1970's - still before "Dog of two Head" was released. But how could i know this back then. Love the heavy boogie guitar break in this song at around 6:08. Quo were on their way! Greetings from germany!

Dog Of Two Head; a most significant album in the rise of Status Quo. The Sleeve alone puts the album up there with the album covers from Osibisa and Greenslade, yet this I understand to be Quo's Own design. It's brilliant!!
In some ways this album to some could have been 'Nuff' s (Alan Lancaster's) finest hour with track's like 'Somethings going on in my head' & 'Someone's Learning', but Francis and Bob Young had 'Railroad' which is Magnificent.
However, I have to be honest here, in my personal opinion Umleightun is not 'Quo's' finest song, not by a long shot, but this era of Quo was quite possibly their most honest period and created such a loyal Fan Base... The 'Quo Army'!.
Of course at this time Quo wanted recognition, but thank god, on this album they were playing for themselves first and foremost.
A few tribute Bands have covered 'Umleighton' and have done brilliantly, so we'll done to them.
Quo themselves have a 'Live' recording of this track recorded two weeks after 'The Dog Album' had been released (on You Tube) and the Sound is seriously Magnificent.
John Coughlan is brilliant on the Live Version... Stunning!
Can I add that John Schroader who produced Quo for their first 4 albums should be given credit for a first class production on all the Singles and albums produced before Piledriver!

Wasnt really a big fan back in early 70s, but bought this album after having seen them on the same bill as Slade at what was tthe Purley Orchid in 1972. They were the support band for Slade who'd just had a no 1 hit, big mistake letting them on first as they blew Slade away!

This is when Quo were at their best, before becoming too mainstream and poppy with things like”in the army now “,

It's been heavily documented that QUO blew Slade off stage every time they supported them, which was on many occasions.
QUO blow everybody off stage, Queen, Deep Purple etc,
QUO are very good mates with all 3 of these bands.
Randwick Racecourse in 1971, QUO blew Slade off stage.
2006 at The Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, I saw 'my' QUO blow Deep Purple away.
I heard blokes in the Men's room after the gig saying" whoa, QUO shoulda gone on 2nd not Purple!!"
The very humble and modest, confident QUO don't care when they play, as long as they do play.
Francis said recently, that at LIVE AID in 1985, all the Bands backstage were bitchin' about who was going on 1st, nobody wanted to.
QUO said "Stuff it, we will "
No pomp and pageantry from the 'down to earth' QUO boys.
Francis said it turned out to be of great benefit to QUO because they had all the world's media attention, unintentionally.

They should have kept up playing in this groove through their whole career.. their best music was created between 1970 and 1977.. then it was harping the wrong string
