I'm not a hammock guy, but putting my boots in a trash bag, gunny sack or anything keeps the creepy crawlies out. It also keeps the dirt out of my tent. Also, stick a hand warmer in each boot before you go to sleep, dries them out overnight, disposable ones work ok, but the zippo hand warmers are a favorite. Great topic. 👍

You can also put an extra pair of socks over the openings in your boots to keep critters from crawling inside.

Unless I'd be stuffing my boots into some kind of bag and throwing into my sleeping bag - I'd place them (also in a bag) under my hammock on... a little under-hanging cargo hammock? I also fit my backpack in there so I can reach most of the stuff from inside my hammock. But even if I was to put boots on the ground, I would at least use socks to block the insides!

I personally like to put them inside a black trash bag and keep them close to me so they can not froze over night and can find them in the dark. But that is if I am inside the tent, outside I prefer to not remove them because of a emergency.

Slugs are my nemesis, I don’t mind other insects (earwigs creep me out a tad though!😬), I love spiders, but slugs…..😱. It’s the same in the UK, we get massive ones, one camp, I woke up every hour picking them out of my hair, off my bag, under it, m on my pad, off my tarp. It was that bad, I considered packing up at 2.30 a.m. I was ground dwelling, have never used tents really, but after that escapade, I’ve invested in a Lanshan 1 Pro tent, for those camps when slugs might be an issue- camping near ponds in the rain etc.

I carry two food service hair nets. Put one over each boot it keeps everything out and lets your boots air out.

Deer, mountain goats, sheep, goats, badgers, porcupines, mice, squirrels, etc., they all want the salt on your boots and pack, get that gear up and away from the animals.

Really don’t even need the carabiner, I just drape them over the suspension.

Great tip....Thanks....I also learned from an oldtimer Vet to use 2 pieces of PantyHose...tie a knot on one end and slip the opening over the top of your boot...Wrap th Bootlace around for extra security if needed.... let's them air out nicely and keeps critters out...

Yes, those slugs sound like morning breakfast meat. Sticks to your ribs.
Do you have a recipe?

Squared away video, thanks. I keep an extra mosquito head net balled up in my right cargo pocket. (Yes, I still wear BDU's. If it ain't broke...) I put my boots in the net at night and cinch it up tight. Keeps all the critters out, and they can still ventilate. Dirt cheap, weighs next to nothing, and has multiple uses.

I keep my boots on the ground under my sleeping area with my socks stuffed in the opening to keep things out

Also from the MISSISSIPPI woods. I bang my boots together & put them in the mss or stuff them in my pack. Depending on the time of yr. I have a foam sit pad that I use as a landing pad to keep my feet dry while getting out. Also you can put hand/ body warmers in the foot box of the sleep bag. Then drop them in the boots when you first wake so the toe box of the boots aren't as cold

I slept once in a backpacking hammock laying completely perpendicular with my feet resting on the ground with boots on. Something was rustling around for most of the night and I heard unknown grunting noises so I wanted to be ready. Turned out the rustle was a fkin badger all along, but I still don't know what the grunting was.
