Unboxing: RME ADI-2 DAC FS [ess/akm?]

We bought a new RME ADI-2 DAC FS!

We figured that our comments on the sound quality will be heavily biased. So... there will be *no* follow up video on the sound quality comparison VS DENAFRIPS DAC. Just so you know that we have it with us :)

Went from an ADI-2 to a Pontus 2. Very different presentations, but ultimately it’s the depth of soundstage on the Pontus that I couldn’t live without. ADI certainly provides harder hitting bass though.

Nice presentation. If it comes with a C it must be an ESS version. The question is if you have the patched version or the fixed one, as in the early days of the change to ESS, the pcb was not the correct one and RME had soldered manually a cable in order to quickly adapt the old pcb to the new dac chip. Unfortunately after many questions to RME and the MC at the rme forum i ( and others) never received an official answer, that guarantees that it is ok at both audio quality and durability of the device. It seemed that they wanted to HIDE it...You can check through the holes if yours have the soldered cables or not, using a flashlight.

I had the RME adi-2 beside the Ares II and decided to keep the Ares II. It coves down to personal taste, because the RME is not bad.

Which ship on ADI2 will be better, ESS or AKM?

All stickers that say warranty is void if seal is broken are just a sticker. They have no legal standing.
