That was awesome. I used a pill bottle, but that’s a good idea right there too.

I think Mower Junkie is correct, get into an open area, itll work out fine.

Strip a foot of wire on each end and then fold the antenna back on itself until you are flat at your desired frequency. 104 inches per side is way too long. Also raise the center and let the ends droop at a 45 degree angle to get closer to 50 ohms.. A flattop dipole is more around 70 ohms.

I would bring it to an open area, and try it again. I think all that aluminium siding is messing with it.

104" on the dipoles sounds a bit long to me. The formula of 234/lambda (27.4 MHz avg freq for Ch 20) would be appox 8.5 ft or 102.5 in., give or take a smidge.

Oh, and by the way, this is Shep but on side band I go by shepfc1 73 I’m from Indiana

Just keep doing what you're doing man, Marconi didn't perfected the radio over night. When experimenting and finally you get it right, there ain't no amount of money that can pay for the joy of fulfillment.

Too much metal around the dipole. Also try to set it up so it is supported in the center. Get rid of the connectors. Just solder direct to to coax and tape. For center support I use a pvc tee. Then tie a rope to that. Needs to be up in the air more in a free space from metal. Remember don't cut, fold it back on itself. Watch dipole vids. They will put you in the know. Watch the ham radio ones. Your starting measurements are fine. You don't need the carrier line on the wire. You could use the board you have, make it smaller and drill a hole at the top to tie your rope to. Watch ham dipole vids. You will get it. Piece of cake

Hi Cory. my handle is sandbagger 151 in Southern California. I was watching your videos on your dipole build. I read all of the comments that came in and it does not appear any were helping you. A dipole antenna is a ballanced circuit at about 100 ohms, your coax is unbalanced at 50 ohms. You need a 2:1 or 1:1 current balun at the antenna. You need to raise the antenna 8 ft. above ground End to end. I use telescoping fiberglass fishing poll's. :0)

Try winding the input line into like 4" circles tight to itself taping or zip tie to hold shape you now have passive balun in line have it choke the line about 6" away from line terminations at the split also get as much line above ground as possible most cases 6' in air is a good test height plus it also depends wether you go vertical horizontal or any combo between like diag on both sides or v shaped there are so many combos you can do to tune an open ended centered there is no set " fix"
This is why this is called hobby !!!

Your antenna should be at least 1/2 wavelength above the ground.

Tell me the metal around the trailer and go out way from the metal that kind of antenna really is touchy very touchy

Are you using 50 ohm or 75 ohm coax cable ? That could be your problem.

size is everything, 8.5 ft will possibly be optimal for 27mhz

Just a thot; from what i seen in yer vid, the antenna is way too close to the ground. It needs to be up in the air and away from surrounding metal objects as much as possible. I've made these antennas before with reasonable results. Keep in mind that a 1/2 wave antenna will usually have a feed point impedance of bout 72 ohms, which is not too bad.. still usable, but not true 50 ohms. Also, if you install your antenna horizontally, it probably won't be as effective, since Most everybody else's cb antennas are vertical.. cross polarization attenuation issue. There's some science behind antenna principles you may want to check out. Makes for a good read. Anyway, nice job on yer antenna. 😉 73s!

You need a matching network, your coax and radio is 50 ohms, whats your ohms rating of your antenna? Betchya its not 50 ohms, its probably 50, 000 you have a mismatch, therefore you need a matching network.
What is the length of the actual radiator?

How long are the wires from center of the coaixl cable to the ends

Yeah I listen to mower junkie 151 he knows what he’s talking about that man can build antennas I build antennas but not as good as he does I don’t think I’m with him is the trailers metal around it
