New HMP virus spreads in China

Head of the Centre for Respiratory Diseases and Meningitis, at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, Cheryl Cohen says contrary to media reports of a 'mysterious respiratory virus' outbreak in China, these illness are very common at this time of the year, which is winter in the country.

Some of the symptoms of the virus, identified as Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) include coughing, shortness of breath, congestion and fever.

Cohen says measures adopted to deal with Covid-19 are still effective in dealing with the spread.
