UA OX Box Update, Hiwatt DR103 & A Visit From Tore Mogensen – That Pedal Show

We try out the new cabinets in Universal Audio’s OX firmware update (November 2019), crank our 1973 Hiwatt DR103 and catch up with our old friend Tore Mogensen, formerly of TC Electronic

Late in 2019 UA announced a firmware update for OX, adding some much requested Celestion Vintage 30 cabinets and a couple of other cool things. Even better, our old chum Tore Mogensen (formerly of TC Electronic) has finished his first year as a product manager at UA, so took the opportunity to drop in and walk us through it.

In the OX bits for the main bulk of the show, you’re hearing the OX direct output only. No actual mics or speakers. At the end of the show when we crank the Hiwatt, that’s the actual mic’d cabinet in the room.

Love the new update! I've been using my Ox for pretty much all my studio work for the past two years. The new 4x12s can even turn my little Princeton into a rock monster! And the JBL Twin is great for steel. I hardly ever find myself switching between amps any more.

I got my OX just before Christmas 2019 and the firmware update arrived just before my OX. I LOVE THIS DEVICE! It lets me run my old 100 watt Marshall heads at the settings that they sound best at, but with volume levels that do not engender a visit from the local constabulary.

I only recently tried the cab sim / recording and internal effects and IMO they sound brilliant. The UI on the iPad is so beautiful and so easy to use as well. Elegant and not complicated. Thanks guys!

As a guitar "player" who plays exclusively in my home studio and a few local studios, the OX is something I definitely want to get. It sounds SO good and means I dont have to stop recording at 7pm to avoid annoying my neighbors too much, or play at such a low volume that I cant get my amps to work properly. Way to go UA, you have another hit.

Guys, that Hiwatt at full tilt was A SOUND TO BE HEARD!!! Nice! Now, I play a touch of guitar and a bit more bass....it seems like I can really get bang-for-buck with the real-time processing.

When you were playing through the OX, it didn’t sound like a “recording of a recording” how some digital solutions can, but when the mics were set appropriately really convinced me I was listening to the TPS setup with physical mics and cabs! Awesome product and really cool to see its possibilities from you guys who have pretty much always told it how you see it plain as day.

Well Done, as usual. I can’t tell you how many pedals I’ve acquired for my SYNTHESIZERS just from listening to the show. Awesome work and thanks again
