Annamalai Kuppusamy, the Tamil Nadu state president of BJP is one of the sharpest young politicians in the country at present. An engineer who holds a master's degree in Business Administration from the Indian Institutes of Management, Annamalai enlisted himself in the police force in 2011. Not satisfied with what he had achieved after eight years in the Indian Police Service, he joined the BJP in 2020 and was named the state unit president a year later. In an engaging interview with Smita Prakash, Annamalai talks about Tamil Nadu politics, BJP’s inroads and the stature of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He explains the challenges and opportunities for BJP in Tamil Nadu and the way forward. He also slams the DMK and Chief Minister MK Stalin for creating a rift between Tamil Nadu and the rest of the country. Annamalai reveals what exactly happened with the Governor inside the assembly and clarifies the reason behind using a watch which was in news recently.

When Annamalai came in to Tamilnadu politics, I was wondering how can a young ex IPS officer do to fight the corrupt and incompetent DMK. But very soon I am pleasanty surprised at his phenomenon rise in Tamilnadu politics. He is young, intelligent, articulate, dynamic and courageous. He has inspired a lot of people, both young and old to join his cause in some ways. He is God's answer to our prayer for an honest and selfless leader.

I'm from jharkhand, my first interaction with thalaiva annamalai was during my medicine days in Manipal karnataka where he was posted as superintendent of police in 2012-2013. I and my friend were on a bike going back home after our evening clinical postings at our trauma and emergency center at around 12 am night. I was riding the bike without a helmet. He was on a round in his maruti gypsy with other police officers. Observing interactions with the police officers and sorry and begging from our side He came out of the gypsy, asked us where are we from, what we do etc, he politely said, that he appreciates and thank us for our service but he and the rest of the cops are doing their jobs, enforcing law, and that the fine that is being levied on us is a lesson for us to not be on the other side of the river where all illegal activities are swept under the carpet. 100 rupees was what he fined us with a proper physical challan.

This incident changed me forever and I've never riden a bike without a helmet consciously remembering him.

I request my Tamil brothers and sisters to give this guy a chance. He's "different ". He's not a larger than life phenomenon, he's just an average grounded person like you and me, the rest of us.

I know in my consciousness that I'll vote him for the prime minister of India in the future and hope with all my good wishes that that day comes soon. He's the CM PM material in all aspect.

Being a person from Tamilnadu who has seen all the atrocities of the Dravidian parties, I personally am heavily indebted to this gentleman Annamalai. The kind of clarity and the kind of honesty this man carries is really really amazing. The icing on the cake is simplicity and easy approachability in the party. And the kind of hard work that this man is putting into the party having politics inside and outside the party is tremendous. He should be one person in the prayers of all the Tamil people. His health and well-being and family security and safety is of utmost important to each person in the state.

I disagree to many who say that he is the future chief minister candidate of Tamilnadu because he is a future prime minister candidate. As of now he is not a state treasurer but he is a national treasure.
