Mitsubishi Outlander S-AWC Diagonal test Off-road | A real challenge!

Mitsubishi Outlander S-AWC Off-road Diagonal test note: Final video test of the S-AWC. We expected more, sometimes it was a real struggle just to get inside the trench. It's even hard on loose surfaces like wet grass or dirt. The best result was achieved in Normal or Mud mode at full throttle. But there is that roll-back movement even when pressing the accelerator that is unacceptable and might be dangerous to get you back in a stuck position. Leave TCS ON, it's no use when it's OFF and gives similar results. Expect also similar results with the Nissan Rogue. The system will offer greater handling on the tarmac and on a snow-covered road, but when facing a real challenge like sand, roller, and our test hill, S-AWC is not what it use to be! At least there was no disconnection.

Discover our review of the completely redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander. Their All-Wheel Control System (AWC) contributes to an exceptional driving experience and unparalleled handling in all circumstances, while the patented Super All-Control is the world's most advanced 4-wheel drive system.

Well, that's what Mitsubishi says on its website! Is this totally true? not fully!

Here is our full review of the new Mitsubishi Outlander and find out why it is different from the old generation, improved and competitive, but ...!

Mitsubishis are such reliable cars, I highly recommend this car to a family or loved one 👍

It's really good some of you may think that it's bad but it's actually really good. It got up that ramp easily take note that AWD systems take time to react. Keep it in Auto with traction control on or mud with traction control on and boom. Also SAWC is for rallying not for heavy off-road Snow, Tarmac, Sand all of those are for rallying not off-road so that's why it struggles but in Mud and Auto with traction control on it shines

I just got a 23 Outlander Ralliart and one thing I’m gonna do before I take it off-road is get a good set of all terrain tires. AWD alone won’t get you out of a situation but combined with some good tires and you’re good to go.

This is AWD system not 4X4, its functioning as it should. When there is no traction its take couple of seconds for computer to realize and move powers to other wheels. Its working as predicted.

I live these tests! I have to say in the comments though that this vehicle with S-AWC is really made for the tarmac is multiple conditions. REAL off-road is still suited for 4X4’s and if you have AWD, going to want LSD’s around too.

Also, the challenges of these tests really show were the weakness is of the system. However if it were my Outlander that I own, I have better tires properly inflated, cut the wheel, and use momentum. Remember it’s is a luxury designed fir the street with occasional use. Otherwise, get a rugged Montero or Jeep with 4X4. Enjoying the videos!

Considering the lack of wheel travel, negligible ground clearance, dire approach and departure angles, not to mention the wildly inappropriate for off road usage wheel and tyre package, I would consider this a relative pass mark, for the traction control system at least.

Good looking car, right price for what offer and mainly families will buy it. To go off road get yourself a Jeep and good luck !!! Buyers know the real reason to purchase this product, I hope.

I paid attention to this video. Went and bought one. Put Bf Goodrich trail ta on all 4. These systems work just as designed. Not a rubicon. The cvt is great. Hope they finally stopped making crap. Have had Mitsubishi in past. Never a problem. I am very picky on maintenance.

My 2016 Oulander GT has a lock mode to split power 50/50 front and back but if you don't select it you're at the mercy of the normal mode operation....

Also, as mentioned, more aggressive tires would be beneficial...

Everyone is saying that's it's bad but actually it's not that bad at all it can get through not flawlessly it still struggles but not that super struggling also it brakes the spinning wheels too just keep it in mud mode and traction control on all the time and vioala you've got a pretty capable suv

Could it be the regular street tires causing loss of grip? Would swapping the tires to slightly knobbier ones help? Thanks.

All I can say is that my 2018 Outlander pulls through in these kind of situations, as well. A real underdog.
