The super oxide is yellow. What you had was a mixture of potassium oxide (K2O), potassium superoxide (K02) and potassium peroxide (K202) on the potassiums surface.

Lol this is so reminiscent of old cody's lab.. except he'd have probably taken a bite. I know this this nitpicking, but potassium and the rest of the period 1 metals are called alkali metals. Period 2 are the alkaline earth metals. Nifty vid and channel though! Just found it and am liking your stuff a lot.

I find it quite unfortunate that potassium tarnishes immediately upon exposure to air (or oxygen) because (as you saw after cutting the metal) it's quite a nice looking metal when completely unoxidized! I have an ampoule of *CLEAN* potassium metal under argon!
