Also, catfishing isnt always for dating. When bullies invent a persona to collect information or play with the bullied's feelings that is also catfishing. It hurts a LOT. And I've been a victim of it :(

I remember the Katy Perry episode and if i recall correctly the craziest thing about it was that he never did realize he was being catfished, he wanted to be on the show for an opportunity to prove it was real and set up a meeting with her or something. So they obviously ended up finding the person catfishing him and even after talking to this girl he went home and emailed the catfish again like "you will not believe what just happened" because he still believed he was talking to the real Katy. rollercoaster of an episode

My sister actually does a really smart thing, she chooses her worst pictures to post, her rationale is that if the person she's meeting accepts her at her physical low point they'll accept her at her best.

This is actually becoming quite the issue now. I remember a few years ago in Germany a girl named Rebecca Reusch went missing and on her missing poster there was a Snapchat picture with such a heavy filter on it, she was absolutely unrecognizable. It took them like a week to release a realistic picture of her. By then, millions of people had been looking for someone with a completely different face. To this day, I think that was one of the worst mistakes to be made in the case. She still has not been found to this day.
