Joe always sounds like he’s fascinated by the very concepts he speaks of, it’s enlightening to listen to

It's a lovely thing when you are watching two people who you have fundamental, key disagreements with and still find it valuable and enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

Pausing after the opening statement and wow. I've seen quite a few debates on this topic, but none open up so much questions and lines of thought as this just did. Your way of interrogating the world is contagious and I will watch the rest of the vid with great pleasure!

I admire him so much, especially how he can voice his opinions and questions in such a way that doesn't give way for misinterpretaions. He really asks the right questions and a lot of his vids have helped me internalize things a lot better.
I would've peed my pants standing there talking to all of those people staring at me LOL.

Always loved the reasoning:

*”If there is no reward or punishment after life, and nothing really matters… than our choices are all that matter.”*

Your articulation of complex topics so effortlessly is admirable. I hope I can one day speak nearly as eloquently as you. ❤

Goodness rooted in fear of hell is transactional, whereas goodness without expectation of reward demonstrates genuine care for others.

For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what Glen Scrivener's actual point was. Joe gave a clear outline of his position- that all moral systems bottom out with a brute fact- and Glen's response was to talk about how beautiful it was that Jesus died for our sins. I'm not trying to attack him, I legitimately don't know if he was trying to give a response to Joe or not.

Still, a nice discussion.

Nice work for what I'm guessing was your first debate with a career apologist, man! Really appreciated the tone of it and the apparent goal of understanding and arriving at the truth. Good luck in your future debate endeavors!

The tone of this debate was light and conversational which I really appreciated, there was no bluster or pretentiousness. Joe wasn't trying to claim some intellectual superiority just to present some alternatives without making any crazy claims about them so I really appreciated this meeting of minds.

Looking very forward to watching this. I encourage you to do more debates! You have the reason, strength and experience to do so.

My favorite thing about the whole thing was how civil and respectful they kept everything the entire time.

It might have been interesting to see a question based on the fact that they were both abiding by certain ethical principles regarding each other, in a situation that puts at least some pressure on them to treat each other adversarially.

What a wonderful lecture and discussion! Will have to rewatch a few times for sure. I just had to pause to reflect on the point of "atheists not being enemies." Not that I ever saw them as such, and I personally, deeply value their point of view. However, it seems many religious folks definitely regard them as such and thus treat them differently, which is in itself against their values! I firmly believe in humanity and the value it holds. We need to stop looking at each other as the enemy and truly embody our beliefs as we live them together. What works on theory versus what actually makes a difference in practice.
