Ah what a feeling, you click on the link to the router and find the exact same one you run your wifi on 😂

I found multimeter with continuity from Aliexpress for $3. Sure, the cables are a bit stiff and the meter is light and tends to follow the leads, but it serves well for 3 years now and still rocking. Just replaced the 9V battery once. No backlight, no special functions, only basics, but it works. I tend to use it instead of my pricey meter - just because I don't have to be gentle. Totally recommended for beginners. And even for advanced users - sometines it come handy to have more than one meter around.

Hey Matt, absolutely love your content. I'm just a lowly app dev and I can barely keep up with your videos but they're always interesting regardless, I see it like you're solving a puzzle haha.

Question: Have you ever looked at mainstream/known-brand routers to hack into?

Harbor Freight's QUINN Electronics Repair Kit (87 piece) is almost identical to the iFixit $75 kit at almost half the price. They also have other tools at affordable prices for those just getting started.

Thanks for the video.
A few videos ago made a comment about install something like Fresh Tomato (or other os)on a router if that would change the security of a router.
Was wondering if you still plan on doing a video about this sort of thing?
Would be nice to see if there is ways to make these devices better and more secure.

Also - add a Solder Wick - the braided copper that looks like a shoe lace - I love that stuff for removing solder - 100x better than the POS de-soldering pen looking things that are supposed to suck up solder when you heat the solder to the melting point. - heat resistant tape - it's the yellow tape you see on a lot of boards - it helps protect the parts around the part you're soldering or removing solder from. and one more thing - Solder Tape - to repair broken PCB traces - and pads - the parts that are shiny on a board whatever you're working on is soldered to - they can easily be accidentally pulled off of a board or burned to a crisp (videos are all over youtube on how to use each of these - and yes they are all IMO needed with ANY SOLDERING KIT - no excuses - you WILL use this stuff - you will REGRET not having this stuff - it is cheap - it will prevent you from throwing project at the wall and wanting to just throw a project in the garbage. - A cheap cheap usb microscope - helps as well you dont need a fancy one with it's own screen - it's usb - you use your computer monitor to see what you're working on. It's helpful when working on small parts and especially reading and researching different chips that are on a board - for finding pinouts and all that - (finding out what each leg on a microchip is for after you find the name of it)

For just a few bucks more you can buy a multimeter-scope (between € 40, - and € 60, - euro). When you buy one with trigger function it will be really helpfull for analyzing datastreams. As bonus it comes with a probe etc. I've got a Zoyi ZT-702S (currently around € 53, -) at Ali, but maybe somewhere else even cheaper?

Great video! Just to expand on your note about soldering irons.. The better the iron the better you will solder. When I was in tech school we had really nice solder stations and I could solder well; then I went home to my $15 Radioshack iron I couldn't. I have had my Hakko for about 10 years now.

One thing i ran in to was 2mm pin headers instead of the standard 2.54mm (0.1"). So i got that and the 2mm to 2.54mm dupont wires. I guess one could solder the wires on directly.

For continuity, it'd be a great idea to explicitly mention that the device should be off and have no power, EV from an internal battery. Since it's a short, it's a really good way to destroy stuff.
