Looks good. I do a lot of drywall crack repair, especially during skimming ceilings. 2 notes: prefill any gap wider or deeper than 1/8th inch with hot mud (shrinks less than AP). Also, as I have done this and failed, don't paint over wet mud, no matter how firm it seems. Give it at least 16 hours or the likelihood of your paint delaminating increases significantly. Overall, nice finish!

I would have also used confill (mud with fibreglass in it) for extra strength. Looks fantastic.

Only thing I would change here is I would’ve filled that void with hot mud first so it hard a nice backer for the tape

If it does fail, use Clark Deitrick brand Crack Tape. This tape will work better than fibafuse. I tested all that you used on a troublesome wall crack. Only Crack Tape stayed crack-free.

Pre fill the joint with 20 minute mud, then pre mixed taping mud and paper tape, you will never see that crack again

Professional drywaller here. And I do mostly repair. There are some bad products out there but Fibertape, Fibafuse tape, or paper tape all work equally as well but you need to use the right joint compound with them. If you don't use quickset/hotmud with Fibertape, it will usually crack but as long as you use a quickset mud for the prefill and first coat, it is as good a product as the other options.

It’s not cheap mesh tape. Mesh, regular tape, fibafuse, they all are used for different applications.

Use green compound with the glue in it mixed with Plaster of Paris powder mix a lil bit with the mud fill, sand, prime & paint!👌

Any seam will crack if the house is moving too much. Paper tapes can only hold up to normal seasonal changes in wooden structures but not if for example beams or trusses are undersized and bend under snow or heavy winds.

What about the structure under the drywall? Was this room always this size, or was it opened up during the big "open concept" craze?

I think as long as there’s no way for moisture to be trapped inside walls or you don’t have a “professional upstairs neighbor”, that bad boys gonna stay right where it is! It looks great too man, you don’t see the tape or seam and there’s no raises/depressed areas!

There is no glue in hot mud. Thats why you are supposed to use glass tape. It literally says it on the bag. That fibafuse will let go over time and yes you will be fixing it again.

for sure fibafuse is superior to paper and mesh. Only caveat is, you can't use it for inside corners

no repair is 100%. But this is the way to do it and i think it will hold up. I had a similar crack roughly 5 years ago and it's still intact (the repair intact haha).

What type of tape are you using? Can't quite catch what you are saying in video. Please I need to do this in my living room

I've learned that it never fails, in every type of construction video, the comment section always has comments trashing on how bad or wrong they are doing it. The home improvement & industrial painting community always go hard on each other & never satisfied 😂.

This is the nicest comment section I've seen from this type community...but there will always be at least one person saying your doing it wrong 😂.

Looks way better. Should last a few years... rinse and repeat after 😃

They didn’t pre-fill behind the mesh tape. Far more prone to crack. Lazy and quick, which is common.

Don't know yet, it hasn't been a year.

how long is it from wall to wall, looks pretty long from what I can see. If its 40ft or more it will probably crack again. If it does crack again put in a Drywall Control Joint- look it up
