I enjoy that you post videos of not just catching fish but the process of getting to catch that first fish and the slow and long process of hunting specific species but gaining knowledge as you go

Please make sure you have all of the gear before targeting Muskies. The rods, you can get away with. But make sure you have the proper release tools (side cutters, long pliers, jaw spreaders, smooth bump board, large net). There isn’t that many of them around, and we need to take good care of them! Good luck… they are elusive but are worth the grind!

I caught a 46 in tiger in 2011 on my 5 weight fly rod on 6 lb tippet. Took me over 2 hours to land it was insane I still can't believe I landed that fish!!! Definitely wasn't targeting muskie but hey you never know! Keep up the hard work👍👍💯

for musky do the three hard jerks and pause method they usually fit on the pause or the first jurk after I use a 10wt fly rod and some homemade flies i haven't broken 50 yet but 49in is getting closer

Try like a small medusa by chaos tackle or a 6inch spanky baits bucktail those work good for early spring musk

Lil tip. I’ve been fishing for on rivers more recently and I found that if you throw your bait upstream and then retrieve it downstream you’ll get more action. Something about the lure going downstream makes it look injured and more vulnerable

You should use a mono leader. Don't just use braid. It's more likely to break if it's JUST braid because it has less stretch and it's more cut prone by the teeth. Get yourself some 40-60lb monofiliment leader. It's pretty cheap and will also give your bait better action in the water. You can attach it with a barrel swivel or an Albright/FG knot. You should also get bigger baits for winter months and move up to smaller baits for summer months. What you're using there is probably a summer bait. You should get a Medusa or a Bondybait in a medium or large size and try that till it hits 70° outside regularly. Trust me bro you will get one.

I've seen guys catch huge walleye down by the stairs. It's a super cool spot for crappie, too.

Steelhead on the fly rod in the middle of winter was a lot more difficult than when I targeted a caught a musky. The tangles, the freezing water numbing your toes, the ice forming on the guides, the numb fingers, the constant retrying of flies, and when you finally hook up, you have a tiny hook holding a 15+ lb fish going on runs that you have to pull against a strong current with 6-8 lb line. Never experienced anything like it.

the first I had hooked onto a few summers ago caught me by surprise,
after I had casted out I was going to set my rod down but as I bent down to do so this 40 some inch muskey just hammers it and almost pulled me into the river.
Then another time my father and I were perch fishing the lakes and we had a stringer full of perch, but the funny part is I had to tie a stick to the end of the stringer and wedge it inbetween a bridge and some rocks to keep it in place and my father says to me " that is never going to hold" a couple of minutes go by and we hear all of this splashing going on below so we take a look and sure enough there was 40 some inch muskey tugging on our perch, I looked to my father and said "see he'll test that out for us" but at the end of the day I had got to play tug of war with a muskey. you know what I think I'll count the muskey that I played tug of war with as one I caught lol. it was right next to shore and I had pulled it up out of the water so yeah I caught it with just a stringer lol.

You need a way stronger rod. Use a dedicated musky rod if you have the money for it, otherwise just use the heaviest baitcaster you own. Use bigger lures too if you can. Swimbaits, bucktails, big jerkbaits and crankbaits. Big topwaters too. Also always use a steel leader or a 100lb fluoro leader.
