i've had the liftmaster 8500w (jackshaft opener) for the last year. its awesome not having the stupid motor hanging in the middle of the room anymore. plus the light is wirelessly triggered and can be placed anywhere in the garage.

I don't understand why these garage door solutions are WiFi only. They are permanently attached to the wall and ceiling, it's not like I'm going to be walking around the house with my garage door opener motor unit. There should be an Ethernet jack. Same with the wall-mount button. If I want to be able to walk around with the garage door opener button, I'll use the app or a generic opener.

We put in the same LiftMaster opener in our garage a year ago and I have to say that it is one of the best purchases we have ever made. It's great to have access to the door via wifi and our phones and it is wispier quiet. You are going to love them Jay!

As a garage door service tech, lubes up the hinges in the middle of the door. That will help the creeking sounds 10000%. Anything not grease or wd40. I trust your choices as a car enthusiast.

You should show more on what access points and home automation you have. Odd timing on this video. Just installed a Meross opener on my old garage door today. Works good but like what you have a lot better.

Wireless will always be a weakpoint for hacking, especially if it has an smartphone interface. Ring is the best(worst) example~ I would rather not let everything in my household connecting to the internet.

I have the MyQ 3800 side drive unit. Nothing mounted on the ceiling anymore and it's direct drive on the shaft. Same WiFi features but also has a remotely controlled light. Love it.

I may be a tech enthusiast, but I sincerely loathe all these "smart" devices. All I want is for these simple tasks to be done, the first time, everytime. But with "smart" devices it brings much more problem than it's worth.

"Oh great, the sensor is broke again", "why are you jammed!", "Why do you need an update!? Why can't I just use it!?", "I didn't concent to you recording my conversations Amazon/Google/etc..., It's not necessary, why must you STILL spy on me!?", "Why am I getting these emails saying my smart services have been compromised every other day!?"

People always come to me to fix their "smart" junk or tell me their problems and they're always surprised when I tell them why they're having the problems in the first place. Just don't buy them people, it's seriously not worth the self inflicted nightmare.

Jay, I have this same garage door opener and it is AMAZING! I have used the WiFi functionality while not in the country. My dad lives with us and always leaves the door open so we can do it for him while we are away. Another thing that you can use this for is if someone that doesn’t have the code or the app needs to get something you can open it for them and close it.

I installed the chamberlain versioning these openers for my mom a year ago and she loves them, especially the battery backup and notifications when it’s left open. Their not cheep but if your into this type of stuff they are well worth it

I installed my Chamberlain a couple years ago with the Smart capabilities and I'm so glad I did. I setup the alerts to notify if the door opens and for how long, and the remote access through the app makes me feel more secure, and it assisted in stopping theft by alerting me to someone breaking into my car and using the remote control to open the door.
